I went to Chamonix for the skiing and wasn't disappointed. Fabulous pistes - unsurpassed views - breathtaking glaciers. We had fresh snow and blues skies. Getting between areas needs planning - but I went to Chamonix in the half-term week and although it was busy I had no problems with queues. Lifts are dated but they still get you up the mountain, food at restaurants was good quality albeit a little on the pricey side. Would recommend to other beginners like myself!

Absolutely fantastic place to ski, steeped in heritage! A great selection of restaurants in town and wed really recommend le Monchu

Only downside is having to get a bus to most of the ski areas each morning and back in the evening

Very good trip Ive visited a few times and found it excellent fun right at the base of Mont Blanc it can get quite busy however the off piste is good and the groomed runs are kept nice as smooth overall an amazing resort

Chamonix is a classic French ski resort and is one of the oldest. It offered fantastic shopping and dining options in its larger-than-usual central resort town and even has an ice hockey arena. It is slightly unique in that its ski areas are spread out along the valley and so there isnt a great amount of interconnected skiing. Rather you must drive or catch the free shuttle buses, which can detract slightly from you enjoyment.

However, each ski area is well thought out and easily large enough to entertain you for at least a day. There is a large amount of beginner and exper terrain, but limited snow parks. There are plentiful off-piste/backcountry options available, but there are significantly dangerous areas so please do use a guide or be very familiar with the terrain before you go. Chamonix is definitely worth a visit!

This place and the whole Mont Blanc Massif is the place to be!
Chamonix has areas to learn, long wide runs for intermediates and more than enough for experienced riders.

I have been going here for over 20 years (and several seasons) and I still haven't ridden everything!

If you're bored with where you ride at the moment, go here!

Fabulous easily accessible off piste and advanced piste runs. Cant wait for the top lift to be rebuilt after the fire to gain access to the itinerary runs again.

Great destination for a weekend break. Close access to Geneva and good local bus service around the town.

Varied skiiing high enough to be pretty snow sure and enough for a good weekend.

Lively bars and super choise of dining options in town. Plenty to do off the pistes in Chamonix too

As a snowboard instructor who likes off piste, Les Houches doesn't have that much to offer but if you are into fast, long pistes in a holiday atmosphere and good restaurants then you'll love it on the right day, when it's not icy for example. They groom the pistes really well there and the trees are beautiful. If you are a beginner who struggles with narrow paths then it's best avoided, there are a lot of flat sections which can be very annoying too. It's not the best place for a first experience learning snowboarding and without the awesomeness of other resorts in the Chamonix valley I'd say it's best for intermediates and families with plenty of blue and red runs to get the wind in your hair.
