What Skiers Say About Chamonix

Chamonix attracts predominantly intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the resort is less suitable for complete beginners due to steep, challenging terrain. The resort comprises multiple separate ski areas accessed by free buses, which reviewers mention frequently as both convenient and occasionally frustrating. Off-piste skiing and steep groomers receive consistent praise from advanced riders, whilst the town itself is described as lively with good restaurants and bars, though dining and accommodation are repeatedly flagged as expensive. Several reviewers mention that runs can be narrow and that lift infrastructure feels dated in places. Weather-dependent snow cover at lower elevations and avalanche-related closures are noted across multiple visits.

Friendly and lively resort. Brilliant fun with groups of friends.
Can get quite busy during peak school holidays times, lifts can be busy during these times.
Plenty of restaurant variability.
Good local transport in and out of Charmonix.

Tip...If you get the Mont Blanc exclusive lift pass you can visit other areas in the valley like Les Houches.

Chamonix was amazing, the off-piste is nothing like the US and it made for an unforgettable experience. There happen to be 3 ft of snow so all powder to ourselves. 10/10

It was really fun, went with my partner as a complete beginner. The lessons there were good, and afterwards my partner continued o help me develop. Staff were friendly, and the place was very picturesque and beautiful. Im now definitely interested in continuing snowboarding as a couples activity/hobby!

Chamonix is my favourite of all Alpine destinations. I eventually want to live as close to here as possible, for the snowboarding.

The bottom of the piste is littered with choices of apres, as well as food options, and many more options within a 5 minute walk.
Local buses for free.
Good for solo travellers, as well as families.

Surprised by amount of restaurants in the town- sushi, pizza, burgers all sorts.
Lovely cafes on and off the piste, easy runs and hard runs. Lots of off piste and we didnt have enough time to explore it all!
Would 100% go back.

Really enjoyed the town and what it had to offer - as mostly a group of beginner/intermediate skiers, we found that the ski areas of Brevent were not totally suitable for us and we perhaps should have researched more beginner friendly ski areas.

Shared a chalet with 9 others. Unlike my experience at other European resorts, I found that Chamonix has a real diversity of terrain, not just the typical European groomers. I really enjoyed it and going up to Aiguille du midi is amazing. Lots of extreme winter sports off thats your scene. Also, I felt the food options were great. Ill definitely be back

Fantastic skiing - slopes were well groomed with lots of different options for different difficulty levels that we had in our family. Food was pricey on the slopes. Best resort Ive ever been to. Everyone so friendly and caring

Not brilliant for beginners and quite low so by March not much snow at the bottom (ski in / out chalet not possible) but overall a great area with access to Mont Blanc, and even over to Italy on a day trip! I'm a first time skiier and there was very few greens and blues so it was challenging but still enjoyable. Chamonix town is lush and there was plenty of nice bars and restaurants but not much apres in the slopes!

Have been a number of times. Used different options of accommodation and have all been good. Best has been Les Lanchers hotel and our recent stay in a family chalet. Food is always good with plenty of choice. Although expensive generally there are some cheaper options - same with drinks. Supermarkets are excellent if a little pricey. Skiing is generally very good with a number of options. Les Houche is a great all rounder for different levels of skier. Grand Montet is probably for the more experienced. Even in milder weather there is generally snow - although like everywhere it gets slushy in the afternoon. There is plenty to do in the resort other than skiing although I have on;y been skiing.

So much to do off the slopes also - a great option if you want to do more than just ski / board
The alpine train to the glacier is awesome and also a trip over to Courmayer is well worth the trip

Spent 2 days right at the start of the season and it was brilliant, despite it being a little warmer than normal. Plenty of space and quiet runs if you want them, with lifts running well to deal with busier periods.

Great food choices both on and off the mountain, with more affordable options available and some really good choices for 12-15. Drinks werent too pricey either.

Good mix of vibe depending on whether you want family friendly or something a bit more boisterous.

Overall would definitely be back.

Group of 4 intermediate skiers , Chaminix has plenty of variety and has a great snow record . The slopes around Argentierre are steep and open whereas more tree lined slopes around Chamonix it offers a balanced mix of challenges and enjoyable runs. Areas like Les Houches and Le Tour provide a variety of blue and red runs, perfect for honing skills without overwhelming difficulty. The stunning scenery, including the iconic Aiguille du Midi, enhances the experience, making every run memorable. However, be prepared for potential lift queues and weather disruptions that can affect access to some slopes. Overall, Chamonix is a rewarding choice for intermediates seeking adventure amid breathtaking alpine views.

Even though my visit was when I was just a child, I can still remember what a great time I had. The snow was perfect and the resort was amazing! My father and I didnt struggle with anything and the family-friendly ambient made it one of the best trips I had in my life. We only skied, but even the easier black lines were fun and challenging for an advanced child skier. The mountains signaled correctly, so we didnt struggle on getting on really hard ones as I was only 12 years.
Weve travelled part of the world just to ski and this resort is definitely one of the bests.
