What Skiers Say About Chamonix

Chamonix attracts predominantly intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the resort is less suitable for complete beginners due to steep, challenging terrain. The resort comprises multiple separate ski areas accessed by free buses, which reviewers mention frequently as both convenient and occasionally frustrating. Off-piste skiing and steep groomers receive consistent praise from advanced riders, whilst the town itself is described as lively with good restaurants and bars, though dining and accommodation are repeatedly flagged as expensive. Several reviewers mention that runs can be narrow and that lift infrastructure feels dated in places. Weather-dependent snow cover at lower elevations and avalanche-related closures are noted across multiple visits.

Pretty good all round, quite pricey for average quality but the snow and the runs were absolutely fantastic!

One of my favourite places in the world, summer and winter. Piste skiing is excellent if you think of Chamonix as a town surrounded by a number of smaller resorts that you take the bus to, that together form a huge ski area, as opposed to a ski linked resort like Tignes. Excellent base for a short ski break as transfers are frequent and cheaper than other resorts, and lots of accom available on shorter terms.

We loved Chamonix, as an option for a long weekend of skiing. Plenty of runs, catering to all abilities.
Chamonix Central has many restaurants with lovely food options. We would recommend Poco Loco for their burgers!

Chamonix has excellent skiing and boarding and offers an all round winter sports holiday. The town of Chamonix has a wide range of accommodation types, shops, bars and restaurants. There is a choice of entertainment, sporting and leisure activities to suit most tastes.

The Brevent ski area is accessible from the town centre, while other ski locations are available along the Chamonix valley. The Grand Monet has a wide range of challenging slopes to satisfy the most experienced while Les Houches is ideal for family skiing and has a dedicated beginners area. All the ski areas are either a cable car or a gondola ride from the bottom of the Chamonix Valley and provide spectacular views.

Chamonix has been welcoming winter sports enthusiasts for over a century . It is a relaxing town with friendly inhabitants and retains much of its original charm. Visitors will not be disappointed.

First time in Chamonix. Very snowboarder friendly. Food options in town were really good and varied. Apres felt disjointed, more of a night out after going home to change eg very few bars with ski/snowboard stands outside. Lifts were excellent, and pistes were fun. 11 year old son tried ski school/1to1 instructor, and progressed well from it

Interesting resort in the area under Mont Blanc. Few different slopes but some lifts you need to visit by car or local transport. Epic one is the descent Vallee Blanche. It is 23 km long and vertical drop is 2800 metres. Slope descents from Aquille de Midi to Montenvers-Mer de Glace to Les Planards. When is good weather you have one of best views in Europe. Mont Blanc is really gem compered with Matterhorn. I think that once a life is necessery to visit this special route. Goood Luck.

We went as a big group, the skiing was decent quality particularly on piste, maybe would be better off piste is there was fresher snow! Night life was fun and the accommodation was good. Very pretty resort!

Great snow when I went, many runs and a lot of interesting terrain, the only problem was the amount of time it took to get too and from each resort, however, with frequent buses, youre at no risk of being left stranded. Beautiful village, I highly recommend checking it out.

Great report for skiers of all abilities, well maintained and groomed pistes. Great options for food and drinks during the days. Plenty of resort support in attendance. Apres ski can be small bars such at Le Petit Social next to the main lifts or one of many in the main town. Great bus service throughout the resort and linking to other nearby resorts if a change of scenery if wanted.

There a several ski areas in Chamonix, only 2 are linked by lifts, therefore you need to drive or use public transport to get between them. The buses are sometimes too full to get on. The views are amazing, the skiing can be too. The town is great for non-skiers.

I stay in one of the hostels, it's a great way of meeting like minded people. Great places to eat in town, my favourite was Poco loco for burgers and the Brockoletti for the Tarte fleet. If the weather is looking poor, you might want to buy lift passes each day, that gives you the option to go to the lower area of lez hooches for a day.
