What Skiers Say About Chamonix

Chamonix attracts predominantly intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the resort is less suitable for complete beginners due to steep, challenging terrain. The resort comprises multiple separate ski areas accessed by free buses, which reviewers mention frequently as both convenient and occasionally frustrating. Off-piste skiing and steep groomers receive consistent praise from advanced riders, whilst the town itself is described as lively with good restaurants and bars, though dining and accommodation are repeatedly flagged as expensive. Several reviewers mention that runs can be narrow and that lift infrastructure feels dated in places. Weather-dependent snow cover at lower elevations and avalanche-related closures are noted across multiple visits.

A beautiful historic town with lots going on for non-skiers too. Generally caters better for intermediate or advanced skiing and boarding with free shuttle buses up and down the valley. Not ski-in and out though. However there are beginner slopes easily accessible right in the centre at two locations.
There are incredible views of Mont Blanc from Chamonix and from up high. Don't miss the dizzying heights of the viewing platforms of Aiguille de Midi. If you're feeling adventurous hire a guide to ski the Vallèe Blanche - a day's ski from the Aiguille back to Chamonix. Love this place!

Had one of my best afternoons boarding here! The town itself is amazing, lots of nice places to go out and eat. Stayed at La Folie Douce and that was great with an awesome cocktail bar upstairs and a club that was underneath.

Chamonix is a great destination for an intermediate- advance skier/boarder. It has lots of resort options around the village with good transport connections to other resorts such as Les Houches which is not far and also a great spot for some varied runs. The town is beautiful with great options for food, drink and shopping and there is a great selection of accommodation and ski hire. It is generally a bit more expensive and we felt that in the restaurants. I would 100% go back to Chamonix in the future as it ticks a lot of boxes.

I have skiied Chamonix since I was a child and it is a fantastic resort. The free ski bus up and down the valley to other location (Argentiere and Le Tour etc) is a great amenity. Skiing it self is challenging and varied.

The resort is breathtaking, with too much to choose from, in terms of what you want to be doing with your time. As you don’t have to just be skiing and snowboarding all the time to have a winter experience.

The views are astounding. & luxury is taken to a whole new level at Chamonix, as the food, accommodation & activities are something you won’t experience anywhere else!

Such a charming town with a lot to offer. Very pretty, traditional and friendly.

Many different ski areas for all skill levels, all accessible via short bus journeys.

Apres is good enough without being too over the top.

Plenty of restaurants, shops, and activities to fill your spare time with!

Skiing in Chamonix is amazing! The views are incredible and the weather always seems nice! Even in the middle of February you can enjoy your lunch on a terrace and you won’t be cold. There are a lot of other skiers but the slopes are large and there are so many to chose from!

Loved Chamonix, went for my 30th birthday ski trip and it didn’t disappoint. So many different slopes to chose from, Le Tour was one of our favourites as we had advanced and beginners, the views were incredible and the food shack there was our favourite, would highly recommend the hod gods and waffles!

Would go back in a heartbeat!

Chamonix is a fantastic skiing destination and the town has everything you need in terms of supermarkets, bars and restaurants. We skied mostly at Grands Montets which has challenging runs and was a lovely small resort to spend a few days in

More of a ski town than village/resort but great for adventure seekers. Not so good if you want classic chocolate box ski resort experience. Also not so good for families as the skiing is in few separate ski areas that don’t link and not all great for beginners. Scenery is beautiful though and I’d recommend the spa! Town has loads of accommodation and restaurant options. We have been a few times late in the season and combined skiing with some hiking as well as a bit of ski touring.

Someone was a great place to ski if you are beginner to intermediate. Particularly pleasant for families and holiday makers. Not so great for single advanced skier, wanting to go and carve.
