What Skiers Say About Chamonix
Chamonix attracts predominantly intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the resort is less suitable for complete beginners due to steep, challenging terrain. The resort comprises multiple separate ski areas accessed by free buses, which reviewers mention frequently as both convenient and occasionally frustrating. Off-piste skiing and steep groomers receive consistent praise from advanced riders, whilst the town itself is described as lively with good restaurants and bars, though dining and accommodation are repeatedly flagged as expensive. Several reviewers mention that runs can be narrow and that lift infrastructure feels dated in places. Weather-dependent snow cover at lower elevations and avalanche-related closures are noted across multiple visits.

But if you are beginner-intermediate level it is fine as Brevent & Balme (Le Tour) were open in December (light snow coverage) and they had some green and a few blue runs.
More family focussed ski resort, les of an Apres Ski vibe where we were, but that was fine for us.
The Chamonix village at Christmas is pretty but there was no snow in the village in December - a parade on Christmas eve a handful of market stalls with delicious mulled wine. Plenty restaurants to eat (we reserved dinner each night before the trip). Lots of bakery’s in Chamonix village perfect to get breakfast on the go.
Les Aiglons was a great hotel - nice buffet breakfast, excellent restaurant for dinner, comfortable beds, sauna, spa, pool. The in-hotel ski hire shop were great and very convenient & helpful - can hire ski clothes but we just hired ski boots and skis & they were great. Hotel has a locker room to store skis and boots in when you return.
Highly recommend Les Houches and Brevant for Beginners/intermediate both places have wide runs and excellent views!
Check out Bar’d up if you want lively atmosphere and cheap drinks
