Alpe d'Huez Review Summary
Alpe d'Huez attracts a broad range of skiers from beginners to experts, with users frequently noting the extensive green and blue runs that make it particularly suitable for learners and families. The resort's high altitude and sunny aspect are regularly mentioned, though this can lead to variable snow conditions lower down and slushy afternoons in spring. Multiple reviewers highlight the long runs, especially the Sarenne black, and the efficient lift system connecting to satellite villages like Vaujany and Oz. Après-ski receives mixed feedback, with Folie Douce praised but some users noting limited options and early closing times. Food quality both on-mountain and in town is consistently well-regarded, though prices are noted as typical for a French resort.

1. Huge ski area for all types of abilities - amazing variety of runs and stunning views
2. Lift access - lots of lifts on the piste and through the village
3. Accommodation - great variety
4. Apre - great variety of restaurants and bars
Apres Ski is good fun - we particularly enjoyed Moose bar in town with its Austrian themed apres. Prices definitely more affordable than some of the big French resorts like 3 Vallees and Val d'isere.
Suit all budgets. Many resultants in the town and on the mountain to chose from at a reasonable price. Slopes were well groomed and a variety for all ski types. The ability to travel to different mountains meant it was easy to find quiet runs and try some new ones.
But smaller than others. Good for families, not great nightlife apart from a couple of bars. Easy access and great views. Made for all levels and all types of skiing. Off piste may be more limited but excellent for on slope skiing. Town is very big, make sure you stay near the slopes to avoid long walks.
Food and drink are very good for those who enjoy apres and experience French delicacies
Before the trip, I was an advanced skier and both of my friends were beginners. They arrived with no expectations and left in love with skiing and eager to return.
Ski school was great at both beginner and advanced levels. The range of runs was exceptional and the lifts were efficient and didnt have terrible queues. I particularly liked the snowcross track where you can race down a designated track. Also the ski area of the domaine is vast so there are plenty of runs to keep you busy.
One massive part of our trip was the food on the slopes. Loads of options to eat lunch or go for a drink after skiing. Many with scenic views perfect to stop at.
Overall we had an amazing time at this resort, though one thing to pay attention to when booking is the location of your accommodation. We stayed in Vaujany a smaller village still classed as Alpe Dhuez, however it was quite far from the main Alpe Dhuez centre so our evenings were quieter than we perhaps would have like. Despite this, we would return to the resort, just maybe stay in a slightly different location.
