Alpe d'Huez Reviews & Ratings

A nice resort, a lot of the slopes close to the resort were busy but not unbearable. I would recommend heading over towards Auris en Oisans, the slopes over there are much quieter and there is a good range of slopes for different skill levels.

Varied terrains with multiple distinct ski areas. Lacking in tree / glade runs.

Inconsistent ski run categorisation but a variety of difficulties to choose from.

Good après scene.

Expensive accommodation for the quality but cheaper than other resorts in the alpes.

Excellent number of lower slopes to build confidence before moving higher up the mountain.
Good lift network to explore the surrounding villages.
Wide range of accommodation and food (both eat in and take away), lunch highlight being Captain Sandwichin the village centre.
Have visited 3 times and would be a default option to go again.

Returned to Alpe D'Huez in Feb 2024 after 17 years since my last visit. Went with 2 other intermediate skiers on a 4 day break.

The resort is above 1800 and snow sure , with almost perfect conditions for the time we were there. The pistes are all groomed and from first thing to lunch time they remain excellent. The warm weather did cause some of the steeper and longer red runs to carve up a bit in the afternoon, making a number of moguls and mounds, but the rest of the ski area was unaffected and skied perfectly.

There's a huge mix for all abilities and the lift system in the village to get from huez to the village and out to Bergers area is superb.

The beginner area has replaced the old single drag lifts with new magic carpets and is excellent for small children and families to learn.

On the whole the area is excellent for skiing. Would thoroughly recommend for anyone who is thinking of going or a seasoned snow sport enthusiast to go. Its a must. The sarenne run and tunnel runs along should tempt any intermediate to take on those pistes and for everyone else there's a huge variety of pistes and areas to explore. Eith plenty of mountain resteraunts and placed to eat, all will exceptional views.

The town had plenty of things to do for everyone, even non skiers, such as the ice rink, out door pools, spa's, race track and loads more.

The evening has plenty on offer too with many different resteraunts, bars and clubs for all ages and really does have something for everyone.

We loved it so much we've booked to return again in 2025.

A brilliant beginner resort with lots of greens and blues. Rating system is a bit weird though. Usually a lovely resort but ignore during Tomorrowland week. Apres at the Folie douche, taburle and trembline then go on to moose bar, underground and Smithy's before finishing the night at igloo or caves. You will be blasted. Home to the longest black in the world, the sarenne, well worth it but does get slushy and mogully easily. The tunnel is worthy of it's status as a tricky run with it's 70% vertical so one for later in the week.
Loads of alpine restaurants serving enough cheese to make a cow turn it's head but get your fill of Raclette, Fondue and tartiflette.
Great ski schools including an English language ski school, ask for Mel and Gerry.

The resort has plenty for everyone, plenty of good Greens and Blues to challenging Reds/Blacks. Most of the snow is south facing so can get a bit warm in the afternoon. Get the lift over the valley in the afternoon as this is not south facing so can be cold and icy in the mornings.
Top tip.. some lifts operate 5 chairs then 2 bubbles. If you want to get up the mountain quicker, go in the lift for the bubble.

A very good resort for beginners and intermediate skiers. The resort is very family friendly and quieter than other popular French resorts with good snow quality.

Excellent for all levels. Particularly good for families. Lots of activities not just skiing. Better earlier in year skiing. Very good slops for beginners.

Great resort with plenty of skiing for all abilities. Runs nearer the summit are good but tougher, which makes it less suitable for beginners, however you can cable-car from town to summit so even if you don't ski down, anyone can enjoy the sights!

Plenty to do in the town, lots of bars and a great leisure centre with plenty to do if you want to something that isn't skiing.

Huge range of runs for all levels, and most of them are in the sunshine. The bars in town are good and good town atmosphere. The piste restaurants are very busy though. Sarenne run is awesome.

Great resort, on the expensive side. But this mountain has everything you want in a great ski spot. Lots of fun to be had in alp du huez

Class resort, woild 100% reccomend checking out the folie at some point and there is more apres bars down the mountain. Swimming the pool is class

Handy little resort, some great runs although not the biggest resort. Loads of offpiste options to recommend, I used Guides Alp Du'Huez to book a guide, fair pricing and quite responsive - ended up with Patrick who was a brilliant guide (and very patient).

Would thoroughly recommend the helicopter day trip to neighbouring Les Deux Alps, whilst the skiing in Alp D is far better, it's a very cool experience and good to try out somewhere else.

Felt the Apres was pretty poor - irrespective of what others say

Easy access to the ski area, and some lovely slopes.
The town was a nice mix of party and quiet.
The ski schools ESF are great and the lift to them is really cool for kids.

I went here end of February 2024 with some friends from Uni. I had a great time! The snow was alright and had a mix of sunny days and snowing days which helped to freshen up the pieste.
The lower down you went there was less snow coverage but we stayed up the mountain as much as we could. Lifts were busy but still moved quickly.

The apres scene is great fun! The Folie Douce was amazing, I recommend about 3pm to get there for a good space. Then as a Brit, going to Smithys bar always lead to a good night as they have live music and a great atmosphere!

Really enjoyably for a week skiing. Easy access from multiple airports. Well groomed pistes for all abilities and a few sections of off piste for those looking for some powder. Lovely resort and good apres ski

Great place for a ski holiday, amazing slopes, awesome restaurants and bars. Tomorrowland winter is a must for adults and the ski schools are the best.

Very sunny resort, which is great but after a few days sun can end up with soft sticky Snow, so would recommend going in full winter season rather than spring unless you're not bothered about a day off. Most places in spring aren't ski in ski out and have a 2 min walk or so to nearest slope. All slopes are good, some are bit groomed each day but the moguls cab be fun.
