Alpe d'Huez Review Summary

Alpe d'Huez attracts a broad range of skiers from beginners to experts, with users frequently noting the extensive green and blue runs that make it particularly suitable for learners and families. The resort's high altitude and sunny aspect are regularly mentioned, though this can lead to variable snow conditions lower down and slushy afternoons in spring. Multiple reviewers highlight the long runs, especially the Sarenne black, and the efficient lift system connecting to satellite villages like Vaujany and Oz. Après-ski receives mixed feedback, with Folie Douce praised but some users noting limited options and early closing times. Food quality both on-mountain and in town is consistently well-regarded, though prices are noted as typical for a French resort.

Great resort for many levels, many apres options. Sizeable and great to explore. Green and blue runs fun even for more experienced skiing. Off piste great quality. Decent priced pints just outside of main skiing area into the town.

Great resort. Plenty of options for beginners. Went over Christmas and they had fireworks and mulled wine for free. Good range of red and black runs.

Perfect resort for all groups. Lovely village with places to eat/drink/relax. Huge ski range from beginners to expert and covering a huge territory. Long relaxing runs into Vaujanay or challenge yourself down the Signal run or the Tunnel!

At a peak of 3300m, with 100kms of ski runs, a Folie Deux and challenging runs for all abilities, Alpe Dhuez has got everything youd want

Nice high altitude resort with some epic black runs and huge cable cars. Take a helicopter ride to the other side of the mountain and ski Les Deux Alpes for the day.

I did a ski season here and absolutely adored it, the slopes are gorgeous and because they are south facing they catch so much sun! Perfect for Easter skiing.

Went for New Years Eve so conscious that this would be a busy time for any resort but the queues here were absolutely ridiculous. Not enough lift infrastructure for the people in the resort. The skiing felt slightly limited and even the serene run was a disappointment.
Took a helicopter to the neighbouring les duex alpes for 2 days and had much more fun. No issue with queue, very impressive lifts and cheaper to eat and drink out. Wouldnt return to alpe d Heuz.

Had a great time as a group of 10 for New Years. The resort has a great mix of runs from beginner slopes (which are free to use) to more challenging runs such as the longest black in Europe. Covers multiple areas so a range of runs and lift access is great to these varied areas. Good range off piste also availble, we had a powder day on our final day which was amazing!Apres Ski is also good, has a Folie Douce up the mountain and a great number of bars in town. Including Moose Bar which is a key Apres play from 4-9pm. There is a variety of restaurants around town from classic alpine to Italian and also a new market hall which is a good option for big groups!

Went here last year with my girlfriend and 5 of our friends and it was a trip to remember. 5 days out skiing with great instructors who got us on our feet quickly so we could enjoy our first time skiing with a short amount of time there.

5 stars.

Joe.

I enjoyed our holiday here but people were rude, arrogant and bargy. Lots of people and notably youngsters trying to queue jump. We have been skiing as a couple and a family for over 20 years and never known anything like it. Unsafe skiing and riding - people on slopes that werent their level and unsafe behaviour. I wasnt overly impressed with the French ski school either stopping in the middle of the slopes, boarders under instruction stopping at key junctions and ski instructors with no helmets on. Not an example we want for our children. We like France but wont be skiing here again - back to the discipline of the Austrians/Germans for us. As experienced skiers we didnt feel safe here. Lots of idiots out of control.

Great experience for beginners, only a few blue runs and lots of red/ black runs. Very high pistes so great for snow. I found the resort to be more reasonable than other French ski resorts, lots of accommodation to suit the budget and great options for places to eat/ apres ski in the evening.

Very snow sure due to it's height and has a lot of lifts which generally move you around the mountain very efficiently. It is quite spread out though with certain lifts required to access whole areas which can create a bottleneck at busy times. Lots of options for confident skiers higher up with some decent, although often quite busy, gentler slopes leading back the main village.

The resort was huge, so everyday for 5 days you can explore new runs. The runs were always groomed with plenty of snow. Outside of skiing, there is an abundance of extra activities such as an ice cave, sledge on rails and ice skating. I really lovely resort with a warm atmosphere.

Hi All,

I traveled to Alpe de huez from 26th dec 2024 - 2nd jan 2025. The weather we had was stunning and perfect blue sky and sunny, and plenty of snow. This was my first time in the french alpes and I havent got nothing bad in perticular to say about the beutiful resort. Other than the food was expensive as a average price of a pint was 8 and fairly simple food was also expensive for its price. Also the queues for any slope were really big and a wait time for a slope was at a average of 20minutes for the bigger slopes. Other than that the resort was amazing the staff were very friendly and helpful, The party bars were great something you cant miss whilst your there if your a party person. Having this being my first time I give it a solid 4.5 stars as a overall rating.

We had a fantastic experience in Alpe DHuez it has south facing slopes so meant we had plenty of sunshine in Feb time! We experienced a great ammount of snow on the slopes as has some of the highest peaks in France. Great for skiers of all abilities and plenty of accommodation that has ski in ski out. I would recommend to families as has some great beginner slopes and an easily accessible ski school. I thought it has lots of chalets and hotels at a reasonable price in comparison to other French ski resorts.

Great location for skiers with kids the ski schools are great and close enough to all the main lifts there's plenty of decent slopes around all well groomed early on in the day and some good technical sections higher up. The apres ski is brilliant lots of bars and restaurants all over and the town has a real nice buzz about it. Highly recommend
