Big White Review Summary

Big White attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from families with young children to advanced riders seeking powder and tree runs. The most consistent praise centres on champagne powder snow, minimal lift queues (especially midweek), extensive tree skiing, and a compact, family-friendly village with ski-in/ski-out accommodation. Reviewers frequently mention the resort's suitability for all ability levels, though several note that even green runs can be steep. The most common complaint is poor visibility during storms, earning it the nickname 'Big White-Out' among locals. Some reviews highlight limited nightlife and après-ski options compared to larger resorts, and a few mention higher prices for food and accommodation.

Big white is geared to family skiing
Many green and blue runs. Some decent black and z few double black. The snow is the best in western Canada by far. Can be quite foggy . Best time to go is last 2 weeks of Jan and first 3 weeks of February
Lots of snow then and consistent dry deep powder. Much less chance of fog then.

We went during a bad weather patch so it was very foggy and damp, sadly not a lot of powder then but locals said this is the worst theyve seen it in Jan/feb in years. Id be willing to go back if it was good weather. Tree runs were very fun for the size of the mountain. Didnt have any bad interactions with workers.

Even though Ive skied for most of my life, I learned how to snowboard on big white for the 5 days I was there. After skiing all day you could come back to a hot tub and sauna at the apparent complex we stayed in. We went later in the season in mid March and even though there wasnt much powder, the conditions still were great and slicing through the snow was no problem. I will say to go earlier than March as the snow froze on the last day of the trip and hurt pretty bad to fall on. There are grocery stores up on the mountain as well as bars and restaurants but food will be a little more expensive as its hard to get up there. Id recommend picking up groceries on the way up there so you can cook dinner on the mountain.

Great family resort with mixed terrain for expert levels as well. The mountain is quiet and the village is quaint but theres still plenty to do and places to party and have fun. There is lots of beginner level terrain but still some expert terrain if youre looking for a challenge.

Family friendly resort, loads of accommodation and non-skiing activities. Can get busy but never usually gets held up, easy to ski entire mountain. Good variety of runs and lots of tree and powder zones.

Big White ski resort is my personal favorite ski resort in western Canada. I grew up in Calgary, Alberta, and I have skied many times at most of the notable resorts in BC and Alberta, and I find that Big White has the most variety of runs, some of the best snow, some of the best glades, and some of the best value for the price. Its not quite as big as Lake Louise, and much smaller than Whistler, but its much less expensive than both, and it has way fewer people (meaning shorter lift lines and better access to fresh snow). You can find more challenging runs at some of the other large resorts in Western Canada, but Biggie has several challenging areas and an excellent atmosphere and variety.

I skied big white 3 days in January 2024 and the resort has some of the best tree runs I've ever done! Additionally, it had a lot of different blue and green runs making it family friendly; not as much expert terrain as other resorts in the interior BC though, if that's your thing. I also got 2/3 bluebird days which was fortunate and made for an awesome time. Also got the dreaded big whiteout on the last day... made it difficult to see terrain and less enjoyable time. I think if all 3 days were like that I would not have rated the resort as highly. Overall though, I thought big white had a lot to offer to all skill levels and left a lasting impression that makes me want to go back! (Mostly for the trees)

I ski BW annually. Great runs, well maintained. Only two drawbacks would be limited night life and limited runs for night skiing!

Of all the Canadian slopes I have traveled too I would rate big white as possibly the best value and quality hill. It is well known for its amazing powder and it will not disappoint. With a nice base camp and a fair amount of runs big white gives a nice whistler style experience at a lower price- but the real gem is the deep powder glades just beyond the boundary. Some of the best powder I've ever seen. Even though it's a relatively small hill I would still place it above the other locals, Revelstoke, sun peaks & whistler.

The best powder in the west for a fraction of the cost compared to the bigger resorts. As soon as the afternoon hits, the crowd lightens up and you can zip to the front of the line of every lift.

So much more than just the downhill, they have a skating rink, snowshoe trails, cafes, stores, tubing, and so much more.
