What Skiers Say About Sunshine Village

Sunshine Village attracts skiers and snowboarders of all levels, from beginners to experts, with many reviewers highlighting the extensive terrain spread across three interconnected mountains. The snow quality and powder receive consistent praise, alongside the variety of runs and lack of serious lift queues compared to European or other North American resorts. Reviewers frequently mention the long season, high elevation, and well-groomed pistes. Common criticisms include expensive lift tickets and on-mountain food, flat sections that challenge snowboarders, limited on-mountain accommodation, and the distance from Banff requiring gondola access. Several users note that the resort is family-friendly but lacks a strong après-ski atmosphere on the mountain itself.

Fun resort, prices comparable to Europe, maybe slightly cheaper. Ski area felt smaller than use to, but its hard to compare to le Valle trois.

Highly recommend checking out the dive, snow conditions are almost always great! A fantastic resort for expert riders looking for a real lift access challenge. The other black and double black trails are also very good with lots of great freeride zones and solid glade skiing with lots of hidden gems.

The long flat cat tracks and mellow decent to the parking lot do make things difficult for snowboarding though and can be frustrating if you don't know when to carry speed.

This isn't a resort for park skiers, there's a good number of intermediate and beginner features so if you want to just dabble in the park it's nice to pop in once in a while.

Groomers are decent, there's good variety of pitches but many of them lead into greens, easier blue runs or cat tracks which can mean you're dodging other riders and losing momentum easily.

If you like slack country, there's much to be desired in this resort, not much for challenging terrain to find anywhere reasonable from the lifts but you can definitely find lots of good spots you could push yourself to without the need for touring gear that is totally worth checking out. Lots of hidden gems.

Pow days are great at sunshine though as there is so much surface area of steep terrain that you can find many awesome lines that can take a while to get tracked out.

Great mountain. Something for everyone whether its groomed blues or off piste powder pockets thatll send you straight to heaven. New 6 seater heated chairlift should add to the comfortability this season. And remember always SFD.

Over the past several seasons I have had some issues in my life. Sunshine always makes me feel better. Even when I was homeless I always knew that skiing there gave me an escape to make me feel better. I dont know where I would be without the place

Season pass holder for last 4 years. Skiied there over 70 times. Really needs the snow.
They don't make snow so the base takes at least halfway through the season to develop. A lot of the best terrain ends up not skiable or only skiable for a week or two in April. If it's a big snow year, it's good.
The lifts are efficient and the lines are short. The runs are also short and you spend a lot of time on the lifts. There are a LOT of flat sections so you need to know the mountain well or you'll be walking. It's a serious downfall for any snowboarder.

Sunshine Village is definitely beautiful and offers some excellent skiing with a good variety of runs for all levels, from beginner slopes to challenging black diamonds. The views are breathtaking, and the snow quality is usually pretty reliable throughout the season, so theres a lot to enjoy out on the mountains.

However, there are a few downsides that keep it from being a top-tier experience. Firstly, dont expect much in the way of apres-ski atmosphere; if youre looking for a lively scene after a day on the slopes, Sunshine might disappoint. The options for post-ski relaxation or socializing are minimal, with not much happening beyond the basic lodges.

Food options were another letdown. The food is passable, but its pretty standard and lacking in quality, especially considering the premium prices. Its more cafeteria-style than anything, so bringing your own snacks might be a good idea if youre picky.

On the plus side, the gondola ride up to the village is scenic, and the resort is well-organized in terms of lifts and facilities. If youre here mainly for the skiing and dont need the frills, its a solid choice. Just keep expectations in check for dining and apres-ski, and youll have a good, if not unforgettable, experience at Sunshine.

This past January 2024 I went on a two week ski trip to Banff Alberta Canada. The first week I skied with my friends, whose daughter works at a large hotel in Banff and I skied by myself for the second week. In those two weeks, I had the chance five or six times to ski Sunshine Village. I had the opportunity to ski Sunshine Village, Lake Louise, and Panorama British Columbia. All three resorts were absolutely incredible, but each resort had its own unique advantages and charm. What I really loved about Sunshine Village was that it was only a 20 minute car ride from Banff, unlike Lake Louise, which took 45 minutes to drive to and Panorama BC which took two hours to get to so you would probably get the most amount of skiing done in a day given it is so close to town where I was staying in Banff. There is no question that between the three resorts I skied in the two weeks while I was there Sunshine Village had the best and deepest natural snow. Ironically there is no snow making at Sunshine Village due to its location so its impressive how good the conditions are so given the resort being dependent 100% on natural snow accumulation. Lake Louise was a little bit icy on certain runs, but everything at Sunshine Village was always packed powder. Similar to Sunshine Village Panorama British Columbia also had really nice runs, but they were more groomed for people who like that type of terrain. Sunshine Village has the advantage of both off piste and on piste excellent skiing. Whats also unique about Sunshine Village is instead of it being one mountain face with maybe a back bowl on the other side it was multiple little mountains you could ski at. What makes that unique is you can stick around and ski a certain small little mountain area and be spread away from the crowds, especially on the weekdays. The other incredible thing about Sunshine Village was how the gondola from the bottom goes up a far distance to where the skiing actually starts so it feels like youre almost travelling a world away to the actual ski resort. From that standpoint, its the most unique ski resort where you feel like youre being taken to a totally different place far away in the mountains. From all of the mountains at the top of the ski resort, there are incredible views in every direction. The snow is so easy to turn in and anyone even outside of experts, especially beginners and intermediate will enjoy that type of condition of skiing, which is easier to learn and improve on. If you arrive early in the morning, you will definitely get a good parking spot in the parking lot where the gondola is pretty close unlike Lake Louise, where theres a farther walk from the parking lot to the actual bottom of the mountain. Panorama British Columbia is also is close to the parking lot but its a 2 hour drive one way to get there so you will lose four hours a day in commuting that otherwise is able to be spent skiing at Sunshine Village. If anyone plans to have a ski trip to Banff Alberta Canada, I would definitely ski the other resorts of Lake Louise and Panorama BC, but Sunshine Village given its close proximity to the town of Banff would be a great place to spend a lot of of your time skiing or snowboarding. The beauty of it being so close also means you have more time to do other things when you get back to Banff where youre staying instead of spending much time on the road driving. I would highly recommend Sunshine Village as a place to ski if you plan to make a trip to Banff, Alberta Canada in the winter.

Great resort with huge variety of terrain BUT very popular. Avoid weekends and holidays if possible. Also, snowboarders who are unfamiliar will almost certainly find themselves stuck on long flat sections, having to walk. Prices are also comical. Unless you have a season or Ikon pass, it's highway robbery

Sunshine Village Ski Resort is an exceptional destination for skiers and snowboarders looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of the Rockies. With its diverse terrain, excellent snow quality, and modern facilities, it delivers a memorable experience. However, minor inconveniences like accessibility challenges, high costs, and crowded facilities hold it back from perfection. That said, for anyone seeking a world-class ski resort in Canada, Sunshine Village remains a top-tier choice that earns its solid four-star rating.

Consistently the best resort I've had the pleasure to ski at and some of the most jaw dropping views you can see anywhere in Canada. The views on a bluebird day are worth it alone.

The staff are always super friendly. Huge variety of terrain and spread out enough that you always have plenty of room.

My boarder wife complains about the multitude of traverses but isn't really an issue for skiers.

Plus, they tend to have a super long season. Definitely reasons we've gotten season passes many times!

Very large resort with a wide variety of runs across 3 mountains. There are runs for any level of skiing. The trail maps are the one thing of concern for this resort as the maps are very poorly done and can be misleading. The amount of crazy inbounds terrain sunshine has is unmatched by anywhere else Ive ever skied.

Outstanding resort offering something for everyone. 15th trip planned for next year if thats any recommendation. All natural snow, no cannons, and a great mountain team keep the runs in great condition. A variety of places to eat and although I have never stayed, there is a hotel if you want first tracks. Two separate mountains offering degrees of difficulty and a wide range of terrain. Always super friendly staff. Its a treat to visit

Sunshine Village is a go-to resort for anything!

Starting with the resort staff and the instructing staff, all of them seem happy, upbeat and there is always fun going on at Sunshine. When theres a holiday or special occasion, youll know about it!

No skill level is left out. The slope selection is amazing! If youre a beginner theres plenty of fun to be had, even with nice easy tree runs. If your an expert, enjoy the off piste and the double diamond selections, which are most often covered with the best of Canadas snow.

The resort has long runs, small runs, and fun runs all of which make for a perfect ski day!

The food and drink options are good, however if Apres Ski is your skiing motivation you may have to wait until the slush cup or other events to fully take advantage of that.

Ive done a season at Sunshine Village and visited with family and friends for years and years. The resort never disappoints.
