What Skiers Say About Mammoth Mountain

Mammoth Mountain attracts predominantly advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders from Southern California, with many treating it as their home resort. Reviewers consistently highlight the extensive terrain variety, reliable snowfall, and long season extending into May or June. The resort draws heavy weekend crowds, particularly from LA, Orange County, and San Diego, leading to significant lift queues at base lodges and parking difficulties. Midweek visits are repeatedly recommended to avoid congestion. The après-ski scene at Canyon Lodge receives frequent positive mentions, though many note limited dining options both on-mountain and in town, with food described as overpriced and mediocre compared to European resorts.

I love Mammoth, if the wind isnt too bad Ill spend the entire day on the upper portion doing laps/runs on chair 23 and upper gondola and maybe a trip down the back for a grilled cheese.
Havent used their ski school, but I hear great things. But it does seem pricey. I highly recommend the quad pack for passes or bundling in general. All available on their website

Mammoth is great, can get packed on the weekend. If you can ski midweek doooo it. Awesome terrain, Mountain OPS has been slow getting lifts open this year on storm days.

Mammoth Mountain is the mountain I learned how to ski. My family made it a tradition to plan a ski trip during New Years around my Moms birthday. I started out at Eagle Express with the Ski School at age 10 and had great experiences with the instructors and their techniques from what i remember and still see when heading up the mountain. The mountain dumps and is known for the great snow and black diamond runs at the top of the mountain. My favorite runs are Stump Alley, Daves Run, and Scottys. Even though from where I Live the drive is 6 Hours, Its worth every hour of the drive to enjoy the pure thrill off mammoth runs with fresh snow blowing all night.

Great mountain with lots of fun areas to explore. Expensive but with the Ikon pass its doable. Dont go on weekends its extremely busy and very long wait times. Eagle lodge is the smallest and least busy so I recommend using that as your base and skiing to the other lodges

Great resort weather you are looking for groomer to lay down some carving turns or big mountain skier looking for trees, moguls, open bowls, and chutes. Knowledgeable ski instructors and most employees are nice. Only down side is probably the crowd because everyone from SoCal are either at big bear or here. Avoid holidays and you will have a great time.

Mammoth mountain does a really great job of communicating updates regarding the mountain, what lifts are running, what is open, etc. The terrain is very expansive offering options for beginners and experts, staff are friendly, and food/apres options are great. I love mammoth and it is always my go to ski resort in California!

During time when there isnt enough snow in early season, the mountain can become very crowded as all the riders and skiers are all stuck with few groomed runs. The food on the mountain also is not the best. But if you are seeking for some big mountain experience after a good amount of snow, there is everything from trees to narrow chutes for you.

Mammoth is the closest ski resort to me and happens to be the best. I usually try to go weekdays, which are best because its not as busy. Me and my family are still what i would consider beginners so the least amount of people around the better. People in the mountain are generally very friendly and helpful. The powder is usually fresh and not so compacted. Easy to ski on. Plenty of food options and amazing food. My son can be picky but loves the food at most of the restaurants. Its also nice there is a little bit of night life for adulting time. Its a quick getaway for us but a fun filled pleasurable experience for all of us.

Mammoth keeps its roots as a non-glitzy resort in the middle of wild eastern sierra. Aspen types - please don't come.
