Mammoth Mountain Review Summary

Mammoth Mountain attracts predominantly advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders from Southern California, with many treating it as their home resort. Reviewers consistently highlight the extensive terrain variety, reliable snowfall, and long season extending into May or June. The resort draws heavy weekend crowds, particularly from LA, Orange County, and San Diego, leading to significant lift queues at base lodges and parking difficulties. Midweek visits are repeatedly recommended to avoid congestion. The après-ski scene at Canyon Lodge receives frequent positive mentions, though many note limited dining options both on-mountain and in town, with food described as overpriced and mediocre compared to European resorts.

Mammoth has been my favorite since I was a kid. Lots of fun terrain, jumps, and tree runs. Just be careful if you hit the trees on the backside. I ended up a mile or two from town in a quiet, secluded place. I had no idea where I was until I heard a snowmobile and followed their tracks. Stay close to the runs or bring a map app with GPS on your phone. Be careful, have fun, and enjoy Mammy!

Mammoth Mountain is in my opinion one of if not the best ski resort in California, offering an enormous array of slopes for all categories of skiers. It has great snow, long seasons, and amazing views of the other surrounding mountains. The resort is well-organized, with plenty of lifts that make it real easy to explore the mountain. Advanced skiers and snowboarders will enjoy steep terrain and terrain parks. Overall, it is a top spot to ski on the west coast for sure.

I work and Live in Mammoth. Its a very awesome place to be for the winter. This is my second year living here and just started teaching snowboarding this week. The terrain is always changing and is so much fun. The park is legendary and great for advanced-expert riders. The mountain gives you so much to explore. Also check out June Mountain for a more relaxed experience. Doesnt get near as busy and much more open runs. If you buy a mammoth pass you can check out June as well. Shred happy, let fun rule!

Always worth the drive. Drive through the night to arrive once the mountain opens and have the best day of riding California has to offer. Living in San Diego I will try to make a trip atleast 2 times a year, this year hopefully more. The drive of 6 hours is easy and beautiful. The mountain is one of the most magical places in all of California that I have ever visited, and now with apres after, offers the best party in California. DJ wildcat rocks it everytime, and most people will get a full half day of riding in before the party begins. Hoping to try out skiing this year after switching away from snowboarding. Mammoth forever!

Mammoth is great ski resort with a lot of different type of terrain for different levels of skiing or snowboarding.
I love the abundance of off piste terrain where you can create your own kind of fun!
It's very family friendly their school is excellent with amazing teachers my daughter loved every minute of her lessons. There's plenty to do once you're done skiing for the day in the village. Good variety of restaurants and coffee shops. Accommodation can be a bit expensive depending on the time of the year your coming. But there's always Airbnb if your coming with friends.

Mammoth has something for every skier or snowboarder. It has tree skiing and steeps above the tree line Mammoth has a vast lift system. It can get quite windy at Mammoth and if the top of the mountain is closed for that reason they will normally keep some lower lifts open. In that event Chair 8 is almost always open and has some some fun powder runs in a storm as well as some black diamond ways diwn as well as good runs for intermediates. In a storm chair 21 is similar, that is usually remains open no matter how bad a storm is. Joe 21 is relatively short in Mammoth terms but has some fun ways down.

They may have to limit the number of skiers and boarders. Many times this place is way too crowded. The mountain is huge they need to open it up more and add more lifts.

Great mountain groomed runs towards mid and upper mountain were great. And snow towards the top was fresh and nice. Staff is always energetic and ready to help. Although food is very expensive like all resorts the food is average but after a day go skiing everything tastes delicious. Lift times are not bad 0-5 min on average. Most of the mountain is open and filled with an inviting and inclusive environment for everyone.

Mammoth is a great big mountain ski destination with a lot to offer all skiers WHEN the weather is behaving. It gets very windy there very easily and then the top half of the mountain closes and can be limiting and this doesnt always happen just with storms or cloudy skies. Thats the biggest issue there. Otherwise weekdays tend to be quieter with small lift lines. Lots of places to stay. Lots of food options in town. Food on the mountain is abysmal. It tends to be open later in the season that most of the country and later than most CA resorts and its a blast in the summer to ski and then go to nearby lakes. Love that it doesnt take lots of crazy twisty canyon roads to get to. Bus service in town is decent but a car is better.

I went skiing at Mammoth for five days, Monday through Friday, with friends. I fell so in love with this place after one day of skiing there. There was essentially no line, and the weather was pretty good for the most part. I think that it hasnt snowed on the mountain for a week during my first day there, then it started snowing later in the week during my stay, so I got a taste of powder and older snow. I think that, while the top of the mountain may not provide the prettiest view that Ive ever seen, it does provide a pretty interesting view, because you see on one side, a mountain full of snow, then on the other side, you see dry, flat land. When I got too cold outside, I would go to one of the base lodges where it was nice and toasty. This place had a lounge that gave airport vibes.

Mammoth is a fun massive mountain. There is something for everyone at every skill level. Chair 23 is such a great time. I also love Solitude which is a groomed blue run that is so wide and open. You can pick up nice speed safely and it's a nice length. The aprés scene is a little lacking although the mountain is doing a great job bringing it back with dance parties at canyon lodge which are a great time! You can spot Woolly the mascot skiing around and hanging with the crowd if you're lucky! Be sure to grab a photo with him!
I don't use the park area but it looks quite impressive! They have two giant half pipes and several tall jumps. It's fun to ride the Unbound lift which takes you above them. You can watch all the daredevils doing tricks. Lodging is quite limited.
