The Skiers' Guide to Mammoth Mountain

A lot of terrain. Great for advanced and experts as you can skip the crowds. Good varied terrain. Skiing off 23 is my fav, for a mix of steep terrain and moguls.

Best mountain in all of california, filled with blue runs for people that like wide runs. Challenging blacks for the ones who like to send it.

Great mountain with varied terrain and many chances for powder. Very busy on weekends and food options around are pretty sad.

Mammoth is a big mountain with a great apres scene. When everywhere else has little to no snow, you can count on mammoth to have some good turns.
The downside is that it is difficult to get across the mountain, there are many cat tracks.
The Apres is legendary at Canyon Lodge- get in line at 2pm, get your stamp and then have easy in/out. The DJs are awesome, and be prepared to dance your heart out.

The snow was a mix of well groomed and powder. Definitely should check the weather before going, it was pretty hot this last trip as opposed to prior trips. Definitely worth it to go during the week instead of a weekend to beat the crowds

Mammoth was a lot of fun a good place for skiers of all levels. We have varied experience in our group and were easily able to all have a great experience. Apré was fun but a bit weird they make you form a line to get into the bar area rather than just having it be safe and open.

Been visiting Mammoth (an active volcano!) since 1995 when it was a small, sleepy resort with limited accommodation (but charming). It’s been developed a lot since then and there’s now accommodation ranging from budget to luxury. Many more restaurants and bars too so it’s quite different but still lovely. Not at all like the European experience in most respects but extremely family friendly. The skiing doesn’t compare to larger resorts, however there’s enough to stay busy for a shorter holiday - a few very challenging runs from the top - nerve-rackingly steep and plenty of bumps, and good, well groomed beginners’ and intermediate runs. Kids’ ski school is usually really excellent. An unusual feature is the view from the top; while standing in deep snow, panoramic views stretch to the surrounding high temperature lower lands - not another snow topped mountain in sight.

Good vibes all around, clean bathrooms, plenty of snow, a bit of ice, decent food when open, fun apres!

As part of a large group I found the mixture of ability runs offered a huge variety for everyone involved. Whilst it was busy the runs never felt over used. It is a huge resort. The park is great for experienced riders but also accommodating to newbies wanting to try. The whole resort is breath taking and I highly recommend.

As someone who lives in California, mammoth is a magical winter wonderland that doesn’t compare to big bear mountains. They have wide open lanes with many different routes and paths down. It can get crowded on weekends, especially Saturdays but overall it’s one of the best mountains in the area.

Mammoth mountain has a ton of variety in terms of types of runs. It can get a little crowded during peak season, especially if big bear hasn’t seen any snow, but it’s big enough that you can find your own part of the mountain. There are apres ski parties that you can ski to at canyon lodge and can be a great way to end your ski day.

Dropping into the black diamond runs at Mammoth is straight-up unreal. The pitch is steep, the snow is usually money, and the lines just keep opening up beneath you with that classic wide open feel that lets you really let it fly. You’re bombing past trees, and views of the Eastern Sierra mountains that hit so hard you almost forget how gnarly the run is. What makes it even better is how dialed the whole mountain is. fast lifts, solid run direction signs and a crew that actually has your back if you need anything. By the time you rip all the way to the bottom, legs burning and stoked out of your mind, you roll into a base area that’s buzzing, warm, and welcoming, with good food, chill vibes and that post run high that makes Mammoth feel less like a resort and more like home.

The runs at mammoth are incredibly friendly for all levels. On piste they are insanely wide and can accommodate a large amount of people. For people looking to do something more challenging, mammoth can still offer variable terrain at the top with its massive size. Have 3 main lodges also reduce lift lines by a significant amount unlike other resorts. Mammoth is by far one the best resorts I’ve been to overall at anytime in the year.

Great ski area CA highest ski area 11,053 at summit. lots of lifts. Weekday skiing is amazing short lift lines plenty of runs.

Awesome resort to go ski/snowboarding. One downside is the lift lines at the beginning of the day after a huge storm. I would say the resort is awesome but the experience is lackluster.

The best lodging for families at mammoth is by Eagle lift ( Juniper Springs or Sunstone). Mammoth is very casual as far as the dining, Roberto's is good Mexican food. The Stive is best breakfast. The dining in the Village is pricey. Best patio bar during the day is Tusks at Main Lodge. Best on mountain apres is Canyon Lodge.
Mammoth with lots of experts - park boarders literally put on a show every day under lower gondola, and both Chair 23, Lincoln Mtn and Dragons back ( if you hike) are great options for double black.
However, blue and green runs abound on every side of the mountain.
Parking is tough, ride the shuttle or get up super early to one of the many lots. Very early birds should aim for parking by Chair 2,
Base of Stump Alley by the Mill. You can head to any part of the mountain from that point.

Mammoth is always great, has consistent slopes, something for everyone and beautiful terrain. There’s also a new apres scene and nightlife.

Love mammoth, lots of variety of runs. They have the best apres ski, which you have to get in line for around 3 if you’re not there before they segment that area off. The run from the top of gold rush express to eagle lodge is the prettiest run when the sun is setting, and one of the longest on the mountain. Plenty to do and see, live music at Liberty Bar and good food options. GOJIRA is fantastic ramen spot and there’s a relatively new dinner spot called Dos Alas that’s good. The motel 6, is cheap and one of the nicest motel 6s as well as budget motels in the area. It’s well maintained and does the job.

Amazing customer service, beautifully groomed runs & park features. Breathtaking views & plenty of terrain to enjoy for all levels of riders.

Nice resort, would go back when there’s more snow. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The mountain is beautiful but I mainly hung out at main lodge area.
