Mammoth Mountain Review Summary

Mammoth Mountain attracts predominantly advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders from Southern California, with many treating it as their home resort. Reviewers consistently highlight the extensive terrain variety, reliable snowfall, and long season extending into May or June. The resort draws heavy weekend crowds, particularly from LA, Orange County, and San Diego, leading to significant lift queues at base lodges and parking difficulties. Midweek visits are repeatedly recommended to avoid congestion. The après-ski scene at Canyon Lodge receives frequent positive mentions, though many note limited dining options both on-mountain and in town, with food described as overpriced and mediocre compared to European resorts.

Mammoth is my home mountain and I love it. Quiet mid week but busy on the weekends. Find your way up higher to avoid the crowds. Journey over to chair 9 for a wonderful mix of harder blues, fun blacks and trees!

When reviewing a mountain and giving it five stars, it really has to be your dream mountain. In the case of Mammoth, it is my dream mountain. Ive skied in New Zealand, Colorado, northern California, Montana, and by far my favorite mountain hands-down is Mammoth Mountain. it is not a perfect mountain, the lines can get long, the powder can get tracked very fast, the wind can absolutely be oppressive at the top, but overall with over 300 trails you cannot go wrong and there is something for everybody. The variety of terrain at Mammoth cannot be understated. I always have so much fun when I visit and cant wait to go back. this past weekend, I spent my birthday there and it was one of the best birthdays ever.

Mammoth has everything for every type of skier or boarder.Consistently solid snowfall, huge mountain, with a huge variety of terrain. They have world class terrain parks, as well as some great expert terrain. Even if you are a beginner though, there are many wide open cruisers and areas that are very beginner friendly. Sometimes during storms the upper mountain will see heavy winds and delays, but if you know where to stay, the lower mountain has some awesome tree terrain to ski. The town is awesome too, great vibes with plenty of food options, the only downside is it can get pricey during peak holiday times. If you have an ikon though and go during off peak times, this resort is elite.

Mammoth is one of Southern Californias premier resorts. Great mountain, these past couple of seasons have had a lot of snow for mammoth as well. Excellent variety, challenging runs and great parks make this resort one of the best you can get in the area.

Great place, a lot of lifts for all levels but not a lot of room for beginners. Need to learn pretty quick. Great for intermediate levels and higher for many options. I love this place but can be over crowded due to its prime location

Mammoth is a great mountain with a varied terrain. Im partial to the back bowls but there are great runs all over the mountain. Definitely can get crowded on weekends and holidays, but Ive never felt unsafe or unable to get runs in. Just avoid Eagle (ski school) on busier days. Can get windy at the top so just check the report when headed out.

We go to mammoth about 8 times every winter season me and my family to snowboard. Sometimes we go more than 8 times but it started to become a tradition. My first time snowboarding was at mammoth and now we go up there every year. I love the vibe and the people and the runs they have. Overall it is a 5 star resort

I came here to learn how to ski, I had an amazing teacher from the ski school, and even though it wasn't 1 on 1 I still learned a lot to the ability to be able to ride blue diamonds. Even though I came in April there was still great coverage all though icy at times. This mountain also has really great beginner runs and I never had to wilait more then t minutes for a lift and only got stuck once on a lift.

Mammoth Mountain!
One the the greatest Mountains in California for both skiers & snowboarders. Starting from the drive up to the mountain, extremely low altitude with a two lane easy to access, groomed all season, quick drive up. This is not a drive up a hill, its a flat level transitional drive into Mammouth Mountain. When you arrive in town, there are tons of HOTELS/HOMES & restaurants liquor stores. This town is fairly large in size, and there are soo many places to explore in town and off the grid. There are Tubbing places, snowmobile tours, and back country skiing as well. Take a night trip guided snowmobile tour, or dine up on the hill at a luxury restaurant. The mountain is divided into several parts. Front side has 4 lodges, and the back side can only get acccesed by the chair lifts. This is a FAMILY friendly place, for all ages! Enjoy a drink in town or dine in for lunch, or just catch the Gondola to the top of the peak of the mountain for views and pictures. No need to be a skier or snowboarder. If you would like to rent equipment, you can do so at a number of ski/snowboard shops in town, or you can rent directly on the mountain at any of the 3 lodges. There friendly staff will assist you with sizing and finalizing your rental, with a amazing selection for all rider types. Food & drinks on the mountain are offfered everywhere, and even on the middle of the mountain, just a gondola chair ride up. Bring your sleds to the mountain, if you have little kids, they can enjoy the small mountain slides. The mountain is extremely large, and has runs for all types of riders. There are plenty of groomed runs, mocked for skiers, and tree runs full of powder. Want to get extreme, take the face of the mountain (double black diamond) down a vertical hill. Explore the back side of the mountain, or additional terrain with precise runs specifiallly tailored to your ability! Finally, enjoy a day at the spa, or go to the gym. You can also drive down the mountain a ways to rhe NATURAL SPRINGS.
Hope you enjoyed my quick review of mammoth mountain, as there are too many things to list, and I continue with writing a small book about this place.

Great resort. Over priced and not always on top of opening lifts before 2 pm. Let it chill until the next day. Dont cater to 3 pm goers when the rest of us go to work

Mammoth Mountain is an exceptional destination for snowboarding, offering extensive terrain, a solid snowbase, fantastic freestyle features, and a vibrant après-ski scene. Whether you re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced rider, there is something for everyone. The resort's size and variety ensure that you won't tire of the terrain quickly. The only downside might be the crowds during peak times, but overall, Mammoth remains a top choice for snowboarders looking for diverse terrain, reliable snow, and great snowboarding culture.

Mammoth is the ultimate winter destination of California! A huge mountain that gets tons of natural snow. Definitely be prepared for mountain road conditions. But also be prepared for epic riding for days! Way to big to see it all, even in a whole weekend. Every type of riding, for every type of rider, at every possible level of difficulty. Be prepared for winds if you take the Gondola all the way too the top. Love taking a trip to Mammoth!

I have skied at Mammoth since I was a little kid. There is terrain for everybody whether you want to ski moguls, trees, long top to bottom groomers, etc.. its all there. Lately (past few years) Mammoth has had more après at the lodges. The Mountain has many accommodations, easy rentals, plenty of food options, and a gondola that connects to mammoth village for easy access to the Mountain. Overall Mammoth Mountain has something for everyone!

I have been skiing here for years. It can get really crowded but there is always somewhere to go and you can almost always find fresh snow. They have one of the best park crews around too if your into that. From the chutes to the trees mammoth is definitely a top mountain for me.
