What Skiers Say About Val Thorens
Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

Ski shop and ski equipment hire is top draw. Such knowledgable staff and great storage location and changing rooms.
Spa area is fantastic , I really enjoyed going between all the spa option, salt room, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and then laps in the pool.
Onsite breakfast is excellent; and more than sufficient . Dinners are great, and no more expensive than eating out.
Great 5 star hotel, will go again.
Great bars and restaurants
Value for money easy to get around great night life or just relax
Slopes are well pisted, the further up the mountain you go there are less trees and can become more icy and challenging and throughout the day moguls will naturally form making even some of the easier runs more engaging. Lower down there are beautiful scenic runs that can become a little slushy later on so better to attempt earlier in the day.
As a snowboarder there were a fair amount of fun parks to go on with some big jumps and rails/boxes to attempt. Tree runs were very chilled and great to do to finish off the day. Very rarely did I need to borrow a skier friends poles to drag myself across a flat plane, most are at the bottom of a steep hill so if you planned and kept your momentum well no need to unbuckle. All the lifts were perfectly accessible for all levels.
Overall was a really fun experience, would love to go back again some time!
It’s a resort with a great access to 3 valleys. Cime Caron point is stunning and has great slopes. There are also a few unhooked slopes which are amazing on powder days.
It’s not a cheap resort. Most places charge €20-30 per main and drinks are not cheap either. So worth getting accommodation with a kitchen.
If you want great off piste experience - Col de La Challe to St Martins is the place to go.
