What Skiers Say About Val Thorens
Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

Very expensive for food and drinks
Large resort with plenty of choice of levels of runs
Beautiful town, lots of ski in ski out options!
Came in final week of January, was not too busy at all. Longest queue was 10 minutes.
After a hard day exploring the massive choice of slopes and terrain, there are plenty of bars for a spot of apres before dinner. With DJ's and great singers/bands every night of the week at one bar or another you're guaranteed to find something you like. Snesko, though one of the smaller bars was particular raucous this year with evreryone dncing on the tables before 6pm! (Definitely felt like seasonaires hangout). Whether you want wild dancing on the tables or a chilled game of poker or sh*thead with your crew, there are enough bar options that you can find one as busy or as quiet as you want.
Our crew just had to revisit "The Red Fox" for a trip down memory lane this year. Experiencing the awesome vocal & musical talent, and crowd interaction of a singer/musician named Matt Denison (go see him if you get the chance) made the walk uphill to the pub more than worth it. Public Service Announcement: Beware the CHOUFFE Cherry beer!.... it tastes like fruit juice but it's 8% :-o You have been warned!!! That's two good reasons to visit, but we were there for another. This was where Rob from our group first met a very lovely Irish lass about 12 years ago who is now his wife and the mother of their child! :-D
Foodwise, even though much of the VT accommodation is chalet/half/full board, there are a decent amount of restaraunts, bars serving food and take-aways to suit most palates and budgets. I particularly enjoyed Favella in previous years but didn't make it there this trip as we were half board this year.
WhilstbI concede, VT isn't the most architecturally picture perfect christmas postcard type resort, that's not what it's about...... I'ts about finding the perfect terrain to practice whatever flavour of snow discipline you like at whatever ability level you are. Whether you wanna cruise, shred, hit the pow or the park it's all here. And that's where it excels!
Thanks VT, you never disappoint. I will see you sgain my friend.
Peace out.
