What Skiers Say About Val Thorens

Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

Lovely, well groomed long runs. Lifts well run and very little time spent queuing. Plenty of choice for apres, good choice of non ski/snowboard activities for adults and children.
Unfortunately the restaurants did not cater well for Gluten free customers, and we found booking a meal difficult.

This is definitely a uni ski trip/young group resort! Really high up so snow is great but considerably a lot busier than the other resorts in 3 Vallees. Well connected from Geneva and cheaper options than other parts but it is busy. Good fun and good food for younger people. No trees at all, but great long groomed runs and fun apres. I would definitely take a trip over to orelle valley, stunning scenery and top of cime Caron not to be missed!

Val Thorens is a great resort to go to. Of course you get the benefit of the whole 3 valleys but VT has loads of skiing itself. This Eason we went with a couple of beginners and there's lots of accessible slopes for them. Lots of reds and blacks for those who want more of a challenge, and a decent amount of near slope powder for a bit of off piste fun, weather permitting of course. The resort is great, lots of places to eat and go out for apres. Folie is always lively and is a fun place to stop especially if you're racing the lifts back home!

Went to Val Thorens in March 2020 with UCPA. The instruction from UCPA was excellent and i feel like i really improved here. The Ski area is huge with runs to suit all abilities and the apres ski is very lively particularly the folie douce. The lifts system is very good and offers great views going over the village. The only issue with staying in the UCPA centre is its quite a walk into the village and the quickest way id by walking up a blue slope. If youre staying in the village this wont be an issue though.

A great resort for group trips, the apres is a definite highlight so would really recommend for those looking to have a good time. Definitely worth getting a pass that allows you to access the full three valleys for those who are more advanced.

Ive been skiing in the Three Valleys 18 years now, 2-4 weeks a year. When I was younger, as a family, we went predominantly to Meribel, as it is more beginner friendly and has a more of a family-friendly feel to it. However, Val Thorens had stolen my heart (as someone in their early 20s).

Renowned for not only its nightlife, its also seen as one of the go-to destinations for those who love powder and enjoy a park day. Val Thorens is above the tree line, hence the rating for tree trails is low, as frankly, there arent any. But dont fret - you can make your way over to neighbouring Les Menuires or Meribel for some lovely tree trails.

With 150km of slopes (Val Thorens-Orelle area) ranging from greens to blacks, theres something for everyone. Park, moguls, stade de slalom, ski cross, beginner/child-friendly areas - you name it. Theres loads to do when youre off the slopes as well - tobogganing, shopping; theres also a sports centre and fun areas for children. Therefore, Val Thorens is a great destination, beginner or expert, student or family. However, I would say, that due to its night life reputation and a higher proportion of more challenging slopes compared to other resorts, Val Thorens is particularly popular amongst young adults/students.

There are several ski schools - the well known ESF as well as several English-speaking organisations. I completed my gold star and slalom training with ESF here and really enjoyed it, due to the challenging and competitive nature.

Most importantly, with Val Thorens being the highest ski resort in Europe, it is one of the most snow-guaranteed resorts, which greatly reduces the stresses of wondering whether your holiday will be packed of snow or not. Furthermore, Val Thorens is open for long seasons, also due to its altitude.

With world class facilities, not only just ski-related, but also restaurants, hotels and entertainment, Val Thorens creates an incredible oasis for a perfect ski holiday.

Val Thorens is the cheaper of the 3/4 valleys with extensive skiing you dont really need to leave to visit the other valleys.

The highest resort town In europe is about as ski sure as it gets in France. The runs are superb with easily accessible green runs to long sweeping reds.

You can easily access the 4 valley of orelle via one lift.

Skiing away from resort you have easy access to Les Menuires and Meribel and on to courcheval if the have time.

Apres is good, more towards 20s and early 30s but is also cheaper than meribel and courcheval. It had a folie douce but its smaller than courcheval/meribel.

There is a good selection of restaurants but nothing particuarly special in comparison to courcheval.

The town is very family friendly with shopping arcades and cheap entertainment such as bowling:

Generally a great resort for skiers on a budget but wanting to ski the 3 valleys.

I stayed here for 5 days and had one of if not the greatest experience of my life, I fell in love with skiing and now cant get the next trip out of my mind, the only downfall was price of meals and possibly too busy at times causing queues for the ski lifts however still worth every penny and second even if it is queuing.
