Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Val Thorens is a larger resort, so there is no shortage of accommodation whether it be slope-side, or a bus journey away.
This resort also has great apres ski, with bars such as La Folie Douce open all day for people looking to take a break, or looking to party.
Val Thorens is also a part of The Three Valleys, one of the biggest skiing areas in the alps, demonstrating the wide variety of areas you can ski.
Overall, Val Thorens ranks highly in terms of ski experience and piste skiing, as well as back-country.
Its a very expensive resort, as a 21 year old recent uni graduate I had to save up for a long time to afford this trip. Although I thought almost all the bars and clubs I went into were amazing, 9/10 for a pint is extremely steep.
I answered the slope questions based on the Val Thorens skiing alone, however with a three Vallées lift pass there are some categories that wouldve scored higher. For example I think the snow park in Meribel is better and the other 2 Vallées are much more family friendly in my opinion.
However for me personally, I wanted lots of skiing as well as apres, bars and clubs. So Val Thorens was the perfect place for me. I met so many amazing people, a lot of the staff were really friendly and I would recommend it to all of my friends.
Fantastic bars too in the resort itself. The Frog, which is the Highest pub in Europe is great fun, and Saloon bar is great too. I had an especially fun night in Favela, which is a bar/club. If you are looking for a more typical Club destination, then Malaysia is great fun too, its a futuristic, underground club that easily hold over 1000 people and make for some great fun.
Overall a fantastic week of skiing and fun. As great as the skiing is in Val Thorens itself, Id definitely recommend spending the extra money for a Three Valleys lift pass. Id rate Val Thorens itself a strong 7/10, but once the Three Valleys lift pass comes into play, its a strong 8/10.
Snow park is large with its own button lift and can accommodate for new or experienced freestyle skiers.
TOP TIP: people think there are only 3 valleys: Val Thorens, Meribel and courchevel. THIS IS NOT TRUE! Head to Orelle - the quieter hidden valley for the most perfect blue run of your life called Lory! Also enjoy other blue, red and a black run in this valley and plus theres a lovely restaurant at the bottom!
Overall 10/10 and skiers/boarders will want to return!
Apres was great on and off the slopes and there were lots of restaurants and clubs to choose from in the evening.
Even using cheaper accommodation it was very comfortable and a nice place to relax in the evening.
