What Skiers Say About Val Thorens

Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

I had an incredible experience at Val Thorens. The resort's stunning Alpine scenery and vast ski terrain left me in awe. The skiing conditions were superb, with well-groomed slopes catering to all skill levels. The thrill of navigating down the slopes and enjoying the panoramic views was truly exhilarating.

One hot tip would be to explore the off-piste areas for a more adventurous skiing experience. The resort's high altitude ensures reliable snow conditions throughout the season, making it a haven for snow enthusiasts.

Pros include the extensive interconnected ski area of the Three Valleys, providing diverse options for skiers and snowboarders. The vibrant apres-ski scene and numerous dining options add to the overall appeal. However, be prepared for the high altitude, which may affect some visitors.

In summary, Val Thorens exceeded my expectations, offering a perfect blend of scenic beauty, thrilling slopes, and a lively atmosphere. It's a must-visit destination for any winter sports enthusiast.

Val Thorens is definitely one of the best resorts in Europe. Great access to the 3 valleys so you'll always have different runs to do. It's a high resort so the snow/pistes are much better than lower resorts. Apres is great on and off the mountain.

One of the most popular ski resorts for brits for good reason. Amazing variety of runs across all the 3 valleys, (and the best and secret 4th valley Orelle). Perfect no better spot in france for apres. And access to the biggest ski area in the world youll struggle not to find what youre after. Head across to courchevel and Orelle for the best skiing.

Just back from my first visit to Val Thorens and loved it. The resort is very high so conditions were awesome, all lifts were running brilliantly and always managed to find some nice wide and quiet runs to warm up on. Apres ski is mostly in hotels but loads of choice. Would definitely go back!

Coming on my uni ski trip was awesome, the skiing is brilliant, cant say apre was cheap, but being so high up helps! Unfortunate there are no tree runs, however if you get the full pass its the perfect location as everywhere is easy to get to.

Good food in resort, not a lot of runs between trees but for the price it's good. Got some good runs in resort and got the 3 vallees on the doorstep which is great.

A truly excellent resort, it sits at 2300m so there it always has the best snow in the alps. The town itself is vibrant, with plenty of Apres options, as well as Apres Apres, and of course Apres Apres Apres. The sking is unrivalled across the globe, not only is it the joint biggest ski area in the world, but considerably more accessible than its going winner (Portes du Soleil). The only downside is cost, its not cheap, but you really do get what you pay for here.

One of my favourite resorts! Loads of places to eat and shop. It has some of the best après ski along with great slopes and access to the 3 valleys. Its also a very well run resort with very efficient lifts so you never have to wait around too long even if its really busy.

I went for opening weekend Dec 23 so it wasn't peak season and running at capacity. The snow conditions were fantastic with most runs and lifts open. Three Vallies provides a massive range with runs for all abilities.
Plenty of apres locations and there are lots of food options and shops in the town for self catering trips.
An amazing resort for any type of holiday, solo, family, or large groups.

There isnt a resort with better apres ski than Val thorens and the ski area is so big and well connected that you could be there a week and not to the same run twice, the only downside is its very expensive but if you go to the bars during happy hour its a bit better value for money, all in all I will definitely be going back.

I had my first skiing experience at Val Thorens in January. The instructors were excellent as were the facilities. There are dozens of runs to suit all abilities, with plenty of easy blues and greens accessible from the resort. Bars, restaurants and hotels were also excellent, though a bit pricey at times. Our group included rank novices like myself and truly gifted lifelong skiers - all had a fantastic time and found plenty of terrain to suit their abilities. Well be back!

we were lucky enough to be staying in the hotel tango which was a fantastic boutique hotel, offering breakfast and dinner each night. The food was great even if you were eating off the set menu with other options available for different members of the party to cater to different dietary requirements. The village itself is compact and easy to get to the bowling alley strip of bars and other restaurants should you want to dine out. Would highly recommend café Sneskco and the frog for lively apres.
Ski, lifts and runs were all fabulous above the tree Line, so not as picturesque as other resorts such as Meribel and Courchevel, which are slightly lower down, but within easy reach with three valleys lift pass. The glacier run down into Orelle from Val thornes is by far my favourite run in the whole area with a great little bar at the bottom on the left-hand side.
