What Skiers Say About Val Thorens
Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

Very well linked . Can stop at apre bars and still ski back to resort with out needing to catch a lift . Its a resort I have been to many times and will always keep going .
Friendly people in all restaurants and shops too. Cant recommend it enough .
With the change in climate , this resort will still guarantee you snow .
The food is awesome, the apres-ski too. I just loved the place. Coming back next year!
Cheers,
Juan
Resirt itself somewhat bleak.
Runs in good condition and some great off piste when conditions allow.
Very expensive food and drinks on the mountains, as typical for the region
So many amazing bars and food places to choose from. I really had the best day every day living out there and Im sure that there is so much to offer people on their holidays.
Wide option of ski schools, I went from skiing one greens, blues and one red slope in my first week of skiing to mainly skiing blues and reds at VT thanks to the ski lessons I had whilst I was there.
The high altitude meant that even though I went during the end of March, the snow was great, and we had incredible weather.
Incredible snow, absolute hero quality. Very lucky with cold temps considering the time of year. Snowed pretty much each day and night to too up the powder. My friend, who has skied for many years, and all over Europe, plus Canada, said it was some of the best skiing he had ever had, and he's hard to please.
Lots of great options, accommodation wise, from value apartments up to Club Med style luxury. Also good options for food, again, value is there if you look, up to some terrific high quality options like Le Face (1000 bottle of tequila anyone?)
Loads of ski rental options - if suggest booking quite late if you are going out of peak season, as there a good deals to be had.
My mates didn't come across any lift queues at all, and the lifts are almost exclusively chair of gondola type, so no need for drags or Tbars. Really impressed.
I can add an extra dimension here, and talk about the medical centre!
On the first morning, whilst skiing to the first lift, i come to a path where i had to take skis of to cross. I did this, then helped a woman who was seemingly unable to get her bindings to release. I was distracted, and didn't realise the path was sheet ice. I fell. Very heavily.
The medical centre were amazing, and had me X Rayed in no time, and told me i had badly broken my collar bone. I needed surgery.
Gutted doesn't even come close. Didn't even make one lift!
Within 6 hours, i was on the operating table in Albertville Hospital, and had a plate and screws inserted to put me back together. Unbelievable service.
Back to Val Thorens after an overnight stay, and i have to say, even as a non skier, the place is very cool. Some nice shops and bars, and also pedestrian access to some of the lifts, so at least i could meet my mates on he slopes for lunch and a beer.
I'll be back next year to actually ski the place, but on first impression, it's a great place to ski, and indeed to NOT ski.
Still devastated, and it'll be a long rebab, but i couldn't have been looked after better.
5 Stars!
