What Skiers Say About Val Thorens

Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

Day 3 of 7 day trip, having a great time currently, no lines for the lifts except short 5 mins on fresh pow day. Runs were still fun despite not having snow for a whole month, expecting big snow this week. Very fun and huge park, barely scratched the surface

Val Thoren is a fantastic resort for bring non-skiiers and beginners to learn and expand on their skills.

It is ideal for a student aged group, with many options for apres and many local bars within the resort.

There are loads of runs to cater for all levels of snowsports to enjoy a full week without having to do the same runs over and over.

Massive ski area so never get bored of the same run. Some cool off piste places. Plenty night life. Good sore, good right at the top of one lift. Would be better if it stayed open later but other bars etc open later after the slopes shut. Well groomed pistes. Would recommend visiting and may go back there as there are so many runs.

Overall, a great ski trip. Being high up means you get decent snow on most of the slopes. There’s a good mixture of runs on the main mountain, but my favourite was the ease of travelling across the three -valleys (if you buy the three valleys pass) so that you can ski to les menieures, meribel, and courchevel - you really can’t get bored of doing the same slopes again and again.

We didn’t eat proper meals on the mountains so can’t comment there, but plenty of spots to grab drinks and sit down with your own lunch.
Apres is ok - follis and bar 360. 360 is unfortunately in the shade so gets very cold pretty quick come apres time. Follie was as one comes to expect, but slightly smaller than others I’ve been to so get crowded very quickly.

We went to Val Thorens for the first time and immediately have booked for January 2026.

The snow was fantastic, having skied for many seasons across different areas this is by far the most snow I’ve seen in a resort (especially in recent years).

Every run was well groomed, lots of options to ski off-piste, and there are so many runs that you’ll never have to do the same runs.

Apres is always good with Bar360 and Folie featuring in the middle of some of the runs, as well as a whole host of cafe and restaurants around slope side for a quick bite to eat in town.

Highly recommend.

Ski straight from accom and small lift queues in morning if you choose correctly. Dinner reservations need to be made in advance if you are staying over new year. Expect busy slopes during new year

Haven’t been skiing for almost 10 years. Went with a group of 4 intermediate snowboarders. Plenty of blue runs to find my feet again and excellent bars and activities throughout the resort.
