What Skiers Say About Val Thorens

Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

My partner and I recently visited Val Thorens for my first ski trip. I only hit greens and blues but it was the best snow in the 3 Vallees for the time of year, and my partner who skied reds and blacks agreed. Super cool vibe, wish we had longer! Also recommend for a first timer too, great long runs.

Love this resort, have skied here a lot with friends. Huge ski area so somewhere new to discover every day and plenty for every level of skier in the group. Apres always great fun (if expensive) and the town has lots of options too

Overall a really great resort, if you stay in the town you can ski from your apartment to the slopes. Apres is brilliant, would recommend club 360 and la folie douce. In terms of clubbing there are two main places: Club Malaysia and Klub Summit, both are central and have good djs to guarantee a good night, go after 12.30 as that's the best time to enter the club. Everything on the slopes is pricey but that is to be expected. If you go for a weekend just buy the Val Thorens lift pass as it gives you access to orelle on the VT pass but any longer and buy the 3 valees upgrade, there is so much skiing to do across the entire area. I spent two full days exploring Meribel and Courchevel and the slopes were to do die for. Courchevel has a great group of slopes accessable from the marmottes lift. Many of the runs are reds but in icy conditions they feel quite different. I would highly recommend a visit to Val Thorens for any skier/snowboarder who is competent enough to ski long distance across varying snow conditions and for those looking to enjoy a party.

Great skiing, short lift times consistently, great quality snow and plenty of runs to choose from. Only difficulty we experienced was getting over to other 3 valleys resorts like courchevel since some runs and lifts were not open, but we put this down to the time of year. Will be returning.

Folie douce and Bar 360 are a must go.
And alongside that, apres ski in the village was insane every day.

Really nice resort, cam on the uni ski trip and bought the 3vallees pass. Although at the beginning of the week there had been no snow for a while the runs were still nice, icy but higher up was very skiable and didn’t largely negatively affect us. Big dump of snow later on the in week which although visibility was poor provided some really really nice skiing, so can imagine it would be gorgeous right now. Lift ques were never too busy, and apres was absolutely great fun. Eating out was slightly more exspensive that other resorts I have skied in, but nothing particularly shocking for the Alps.

Go 3 valleys pass for huge amount of options and also flexibility for optimum weather smart skiing.

Food great if you find the right places slightly off the beaten track. There are lots of options.

Coffees not too expensive.

Orelle is great but needs better lifts

Val thorens is situated in the 3 valleys main resort, one of the higher resorts in the mountain set, therefore brilliant snow conditions, Val thorens has plenty of bars, restaurants and shops for day to day shoppers. The lift access is abundant so access to other areas of the three valleys is quick and easy

Honestly, it's such a big ski zone due to the wider 3 vallees pass, it has something for everyone! I think the apres is brilliant, and it seemed super family friendly from what I could tell TBF. I think the December season the slopes are a little patchy but that is to be expected imho.

Skiing is great and the lifts are easy to access. Moving through the valley is easy. Nightlife is good but limited and there aren’t a huge number of places to eat out.

Such a good all-rounder of a resort. The massive ski area of Les Trois Vallees ensures that you will never get board and offers the opportunity to have some fun days out with your friends. A wide variety of pistes including long, smooth, winding runs and also plenty of mogul fields if that is your thing.
A lively resort, with the majority of accommodation being ski in/ski out. Good options for dining out, whether it be at lunch time or in the evening. We ate well each night of our stay, but special mention must go to the restaurant at L’Oxalys.

My second ski trio with the lads. At Val Thorens you can spend a fortune and have a very nice trip or you can keep it cheap and still have a great time, because you go skiing to ski, the places you want to eat/drink at are of your choice and there are plenty of them.
Lots of Apres if you fancy it and also lots of great bars to just kick back and relax in.
We got the three valley ski passes, which was absolutely awesome, taking in the scenery and had great days out skiing all over. Plenty of bars whilst you are out and about for refreshments which was needed, you can cover a lot of ground and very quickly, it's a great area to ski.
