Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

A great resort with brilliant skiing and brilliant nightlife. Not cheap but extensive ski areas with something for everyone. As it’s so there is always skiing. We often ski in April. Restaurants for all budgets and just a great vibe!

Had an amazing time at Val d’Isère. The skiing is unreal—loads of variety, great snow, and everything is really well connected so it’s easy to get around. The village has a fun buzz without feeling fake or overdone.
Après-ski: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Top tier. Lively, fun, and famous for a reason. Whether you want a big party or just drinks with friends, there’s plenty going on.
Restaurants: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½
Really impressed with the food. Lots of great options from classic alpine dishes to more upscale places. Not cheap, but definitely good quality.
Would 100% go back.

First time at the resort. Staff were really friendly and couldn’t do more for you. People who go there are really sociable and welcoming also which makes it a nice place to go as a developing snowboarder.

Such a beautiful resort with so much to do. Our hotel was basic but the food was 5 star! Hotel Ducs de Savoie Val d'Isere - The nicest hotel food I have ever had on holiday. Our package includes breakfast and 3 course meal nightly including wine - worth every penny. Great service too. The ski resort and runs are fantastic- a lot of variety. As a beginner I felt like the runs were quite difficult to navigate and I would recommend a full week of ski school were as I only had 3 half days and I don’t think it prepared me for the runs. La Folie Douce a must visit - such a great atmosphere- pricey drink but worth it!

I went to Val disere to complete my ski instructor course. During this time it was Covid so my opinion may be slightly skewed. However, I just think the area is great, there are so many kilometres to ski and for all abilities from greens to black runs. I think that Val is the best place I’ve ever skied, the resort is vast and varied and well connected, allowing you to ski all the way to tinge and the other side of Val. They have many places where you can eat during your lunchtime (my favourite was marmottes and tinge cuisine), however it can get expensive eating out all the time, which is why I would opt for a packed lunch for most of the time. Even if you go and you decide you’re not fond of skiing or snowboarding, there’s so many things to keep you occupied in the restort, the apres is amazing at cocoricos and the follie, and Val disere has some great bars for afterwards like bananas and le petit danoise. For that reason I would recommend the restort to anyone who loves the apres side of skiing and snowboarding. They have many great restaurants for chill evenings too, like hibbou (wing Wednesdays were my favourite), the fondue factory, quicksilvers cafe and so many more. Overall Val disere is a GREAT resort, and one I am very fond of, having spent 2 months there I would choose to go back there in a heartbeat over any of the other places I have skied in my life!

Val is a huge resort and there are some lovely runs over into Tignes for a change of scenery! A pricier place but if you look in the right areas you can still find some good value. Some nice apres spots as well!

I really enjoyed my trip to Val d’Isere last year. There was a huge group of us with a wide range of skiing levels, but there were a great range of pistes for everyone to enjoy during the week. Another bit of the resort I appreciated was that there was a variety of pistes going to the a restaurants/cafes, so we could meet up as a group, but arrive from a blue and a black run to the same point for lunch - hugely important on a large group ski trip in my opinion.
I felt everyone loved the snow, range of pistes, and vibe of the resort.
There were a few places with REALLY bad mogul fields that hadn’t been managed, somewhere unexpected, which lead to us all having to take ages getting through them safely with the beginner to intermediate skiers.
But otherwise - all great. I would go back. Hope this helps! :)

Absolutely loved Val D'Idere! We stayed for 5 nights. The resort was well maintained. The skiable terrain was unimaginable, as far as the eye could see. The Apres ski and parties were unrivaled. The food on the mountain was cheaper than a full poor quality meal in the US and much better quality and more enjoyable! I loved everything about our trip. Everyone was helpful and friendly. Highly recommend skiing over to Tignes resent as well nearby. Exploring the town was cute too. I have nothing bad to say except that of course it's not as picturesque as Chamonix but the skiing, lack of lines, breadth of terrain, off piste options, quality of the snow late season, ease of public transportation and small town feel for how large the resort was was incredible and I would love to go back. It was the trip of a lifeline.

In my opinion it is one of the best resort options, it has something for everyone.. Green slopes, black slopes, off piste, great food and the best apres around! The ski area is high so the snow quality is some of the best no matter the time of season! Would recommend to anyone!
