Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

I very much enjoyed val d’isere the skiing was fun. However some places are not value for money some are but most aren’t you can get ripped off easily.

Enjoyable trip all the same.

Had such an amazing week here with my family and couldn’t recommend it more as a beginner level skier I mostly stuck to blue runs but they offered so much diversity in the level of blue runs that I was entertained and challenged enough to enjoy every minute

I’m a nervous level 1 skier and found this resort not as suitable for my level as others, like Peisey Vallandry for example. The colours are not not a true reflection compared to other resorts and the greens have elements of hard blues and the blues have elements of hard reds. I tried the ESP ski school and found that the private lesson was really good but the group lessons are not so good so left them early, as did another two people on my group. We stayed in Daille which was a 5 minute free bus ride into town to the bottom of the Solaise. The resort is well looked after and apart from dog poo, the resort was clean. It is a bit pricey but there are cheap options. I would return but when my skiing has improved.

This is a fantastic resort for intermediate and advanced skiers.
The slopes are very well groomed and you can always find quieter areas if crowds aren’t your thing.
There is a great vibe to this resort with plenty of lively bars and restaurants to explore.
My absolute favourite resort in Europe!

I have visited Val D’isere for several years. Each year we contemplate trying a new resort but Val truly has everything to offer. From the minute we arrive into town it feels like home, an idyllic high street packed with fabulous hotels, chalets and of course the amazing selection of restaurants. La Barraque is our personal favourite and always delivers, plus the live singer there is one of the best we’ve heard. However, where Val really shines is of course the slopes. Solaise is always our pick on day one, making sure we get the iconic lift over to Leissures where the skiing is fantastic. Olympique also offers an excellent variation of slopes that suit our family’s differing skiing levels whilst still allowing us to ski altogether, with a trip to the Folie squeezed in from time to time! Val is by far the epitome of the dream ski holiday and I hope that I can continue visiting my favourite place for many years to come!

Great resort with something for everyone. Not many green slopes for beginners but the ski school facilities are excellent. There are also plenty of restaurants and shops for those not wanting to ski.

Love that there are quite many black slopes, i like thr black ones :) . And most of the lifts are fast, there are only little (or no) queues even in high season if you know when to go where. And - off piste - amazing. Even if there is no fresh pow, you will find great places to go off piste.

Skiing is great. Nice friendly atmosphere in the town. But most things are over priced, could do with some more laid back spots for more budget friendly drinks and food. Great markets on Mondays in town center.

Great skiing, efficient lifts and a well looked after piste. Snow parks are built up early in the season and are well maintained throughout. Off piste is vast and they get great snow

Favourite place on earth, great huge ski area with really quick lifts. Perfect balance of Apres with the Folie and cocoricos. A lot more reasonably priced than we thought which was a huge bonus. Beautiful town with lots of shops so also perfect for people who don’t ski!

I went to tignes/val d’isere as part of a university ski trip, a lot of focus of apres which surpassed my expectations. During my trip I got a variety of weather conditions, during high winds, a lot of pistes and lifts closed which was unfortunate but enough were still open to have a great day skiing regardless. My favourite part of tignes/val d’isere was the frequency and reliability of the shuttle buses, this opened access to the entire ski resort without the fear of getting stuck and having to pay for an uber etc.

I have done two ski season in Val d’ isere and holiday once. Fantastic ski area with pistes for all levels, however I would say it is more suited to a more advanced level.
Apres ski is great up the mountain and at the bottom! Very friendly and lovely atmosphere.
The village is also beautiful and has plenty of nice places to eat.

Ski Val D’seire a few times with friends and each time had the best time from hotel to chalet. Food is great and the apre ski is brilliant for groups and families. Ski runs are sometimes busy but still very good. Runs well maintained.
