Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Great week. Easy to navigate around the slopes. Efficient bus service. Hard to get meal reservations for a large group of 11.

We were a group of 4 middle-aged women, who had never skied, we are all very active and it had been dream holiday for us. The catered chalet was amazing with great food, hosts and company, ski school was great with an awesome instructor in Benoit (sheriff). We had the best time and can’t wait to ski again .

Great resort. High up so loads of snow when other resorts are short of snow. Well groomed pistes and lots of off piste with really knowledgeable guides. A very pretty town with excellent ski shops, souvenirs, and clothes. A great mix of restaurants in and off the mountain for all tastes, ranging from Michelin Starred to family fondue and burger bars with everything in between. It’s a bit pricy, and accommodation is on the snug-side, but that’s France. You won’t beat the ski area. There are also lots of other activities on offer.

Large area of runs and lifts between the 3 valleys. On most runs there are places to stop of a coffee, food or drinks and plenty of toilet facilities around also. Plenty of blues and greens for beginners and so many more for those a bit braver. I’ve stayed twice in different catered chalets and both have been an unbelievable experience.

As the first time visiting I was excited to be there there and it didn’t disappoint. The ability to move between resorts is great and easily accessible. Slightly on the pricier side but worth every penny.

Val D'isere is the best, most organised ski resort. The lifts are fantastic, the buses are frequent and well connected. The piste is always kept well and the off piste is world class. There's something for everyone in the resort. You can have a decent pizza, burger to a Michelin star restaurant. It's actually paradise.
