Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Skiing over new years and the candle lit ski down the slope was amazing. The apartment where we stayed was close to the slope and had everything we needed.

My absolute favourite resort in thr Alps. It has everything I look for when I go skiing. The snow is always excellent & I love skiing Le Face de Bellevarde & the OK. I also love skiing over to Tignes each morning & if the weather is good, going up the Grande Motte.

I did my ski season as a chalet chef/host in Val D’Isere in 2016 and had the best time of my life!

I later visited with my partner and we had such a beautiful trip. The resort caters to everyone, families, couple and groups. We both hadn't skied in a while so easily booked some lessons to get us back up and running - the instructors know the resorts so well and really push you to try new things within your capabilities.

Being next to Tignes theres a real variety of restaurants and bars to suit all visitors. I have never had a better time at Apres than when in Val D’Isere, with amazing bars up the mountain and down the bottom.

The resort is one of the more expensive ones i have visited and noticed a bit of a rise in costs since my ski season, however the stunning surroundings and atmosphere make it an unforgettable holiday and would recommend to anyone!

Despite 2 weeks without fresh snow, pistes were in very good shape. Fresh snow fell last 2 days and open blacks were left unlisted - good for advanced skiers when Av risk went to 4. Lots of list accessible off-piste but this gets skied out quickly.

Top quality resort, loads of choice for a range of ski levels. Blue slopes were a particularly high level and even found some greens to be pretty advanced, but it was perfect to push your level. No lift queues, apres was excellent and some quiet slopes to take your time. Loved it.

Val D’isere is by far the best ski resort out there. Accessibility, piste options, après, nightlife, fine dining, or if you just fancy a take away pizza, this is the resort for all. I celebrated my 30th in December 2024 and had the best experience ever. My friends and I cannot wait to get back to make some more memories!

The slopes are slightly tougher than other resorts, some green runs could definitely be blues. However, it was the best ski resort I’ve been to. Lift queues were not bad at all.

Val D is a fantastic resort with many runs so plenty of skiing for the week. Tignes and Val D are connected so take your pick of where to ski or where to Apres! Both resorts have a Coco Rico’s which is always a blast having been there many a time on several different trips! One of the best resorts for sure. Snow is usually good as it’s so high up and also has a glacier.

Early starts are the way forward in Val to beat the lift queues, fresh snow is the way forward. We had no snow fall whilst there so by day 5 the snow become compacted and very icy. We were there very early in the season so there were still quite a lot of town works going on, not all buses were running. Apres was great not too over crowded. Our children gained great confidence rather quickly. Explore ski lessons in depth as our first lessons were with younger girls expecting the older age group 40-55 to be flexible like them. Our catered chalet was amazing, great hosts.

The best ski resort, no matter the ski level! My family and I all ski here comfortably despite all being at very different ski levels. My brothers and I learnt to ski here and have been coming every year since for 6 years. My mum, though the least confident of the family, always regains her confidence and is reassured by the fact that there's always an opportunity to take a break and grab a drink whilst the rest of us ski on. The food is always fantastic, both on and off the slope. Folie Douce is always a must three days in when the legs are starting to ache and we can all do with something to take the edge off! Though there have been many times where we have opted to ski down post-Folie and maybe regretted that decision. I encourage skiers of all levels to please try this resort but I warn you, nowhere else compares once you have visited Val!

great snow year - apre was too much fun- food is always amazing
Tough place to get to but great bus service. Almost no lift lines but you need good weather as limited tree skiing.
Lots of accommodation options - we stayed with 6 people- apartment was very spacious and had 5 bathrooms - good cooking amenities if you wanted to cook in.
Lots of options if you want to eat out - on slope meals are amazing compared to morth america. Never had a bad meal - a bit costly for cdn $.

Good intermediate or above resort. Apres top notch.
Plenty of routes for each day to be different and lots to explore off piste!
More expensive resort (went to visit friends therefore cannot comment on accommodation in the area), but the experience makes it more than worth it.
