Lots of great options for beginner skiers and boarders, or those wanting to progress to intermediate. Massive ski area for established skiers and advanced skiers. Great apres options and lift network to connect more novice riders to bars and restaurants on the slopes

Great resort. Large ski area with access to the entire espace killy area with correct lift pass.
Good for all abilities. Beginner runs higher up for good quality snow all times of day and throughout the season.
High altitude resort. Able to ski late into the season.

Loved Val d’Isere. It was my first time skiing, and I had great beginner lessons and excellent snow quality. The lifts worked well, and I could go quite a long way just on greens and blues.

Super large resort including Tignes, you're spoilt for choice for groomed runs. Options for off piste everywhere but going with a rider used to the resort would help. No tree runs about, and any trees around you'll be looking for branches whipping you! Definitely a skiers resort but snowboarders won't be left behind. Great apres dotted about, both afternoon and evening. Alot of ski in ski out accommodation. Lively mountain with a variety of food and drink options that can get a little busy but overall good fun.

Skiing was excellent. Lots of runs, lots of snow and lots of off piste options for those who dare. Could do with more apres ski places as they get incredibly busy/there's no room if you end up going too late. We didn't have the best luck with food but we wouldn't let that stop us, we maybe just went to the wrong places (even though we did go to highly rated/recommended places)

It has been awhile since I was in Val, but of my 40 years of skiing it is one of the places I remember the most. Great expense for all levels, great apres, and great evening entertainment.

Would thoroughly recommend for those who don’t want a peaceful week.

Great resort, would love to visit again soon. Short stay on my own whilst visiting a family member that was working out there and had an amazing experience. Apart from forgetting my goggles at the hotel, realising this at the top of the gondola

The resort is a beautiful area with plenty shops, bars/ restaurants for each meal time.

The skiing is brilliant and a good size for just Val D'isere on a 5 day trip for beginner to advanced. If all members of the trip are decent. Then a pass to cover Val and Tignes is definitely recommended. They can be expensive though. So buy in resort. Beginners can use the bottom lifts for free in Val. 8's an under are also free for lift passes.
Maybe take advantage or Val and Le Fornet before getting the Tignes pass added on.

Resort area off-piste skiing is beautiful when times right, but always take a guide if possible.
The rock a slide course is soon much fun and there aren't many people who know it exists. Also, probably need someone who knows the area to get to it.

Food can be expensive. So either do a shop run at the bottom of the mountain (St Bourg Maurice) to cook each night or ask tourist information for the best prices around the town.

My last trip was my first trip to Val d’Isère which is now a firm favourite resort! From the moment you arrive, Val d’Isère feels designed for people who truly love the mountains. It definitely lived up to the great reputation and was beautiful, charming, had plenty of runs and was very well connected and accessible for all people. The scale of the terrain is immense. Linked with neighbouring Tignes, the Espace Killy area offers over 300 km of pistes, with an incredible variety of runs for everyone skiers, snowboarders and non-skiers alike. You can ski or snowboard for days and still find new routes to explore. Your lift pass even includes access to the leisure centre, so you can swim, play ping pong or even try life-size chess if the weather closes in.
Traditional Alpine buildings sit alongside great restaurants and shops filled with the classic hot mountain food you crave after a long day outside. There is a lively atmosphere and a real sense of history as one of the great homes of European skiing. The lift system is excellent and makes it easy to move between sectors and across to Tignes without complicated routes. Being able to snowboard straight back into town at the end of the day is a particular joy.
For skiers, there is everything from long flowing red pistes perfect for carving to genuinely demanding black runs and legendary off-piste. The Face de Bellevarde, used in the 1992 Olympic downhill, is both intimidating and thrilling.
Snowboarders are equally well served. Wide cruisy runs, natural terrain features and excellent snow parks make it fun for beginners and experts alike. The high altitude keeps snow conditions reliable throughout the season too.
Après-ski here is also legendary: dancing on the tables at La Folie Douce or enjoying a glass of wine or beer in a cosy mountain restaurant. The atmosphere is lively but never feels overly commercial or pretentious.
Val d’Isère has energy and nightlife yet still feels authentic and charming rather than a purpose-built ski complex. For me, it has everything and the atmosphere of a world-class ski resort that makes me want to return every winter!
