What Skiers Say About Val d'Isère

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Great place to get a variety of runs… simple greens, cruisey blues all the way through to bumpy blacks. And of course the Face de Bellevarde!

One of the best ski resorts I’ve ever skied at, the town itself is authentic and genuine, the apres ski is next level but also has options for late night ales as well as nice restaurants with traditional foods as well as more international options.

The skiing is incomparable, the area is massive, the altitude and snow sure slopes are excellent, well groomed, lifts as far as the eye can see, cafes and restaurants on the slopes at every turn. No queues.

An all round excellent resort,

Val D'Isere is an amazing place, beautiful and quiet. However, this is because it is the preserve of the richer ski holidayers. Apres is fairly limited, as is the opportunity to eat out. The final runs to the village are Red or above so not really family friendly. However, it was an amazing place to visit with our group of seasoned skiers. If I was to return to the area, I would be planning to stay in the linked Tignes area but still visit to go down Bellevarde and other amazing runs!

Val d’Isere is a great resort , part of one of the world’s best ski areas ( together with Tignes).
A good mix of relaxing and easy runs, but with classic challenges too.
The far side of the ski area is high and snow sure on a glacier.
Off piste is extensive.
Can be a bit expensive for accommodation, apres ski etc.
Runs back to resort get scrapped too.
But there are down lift options with gondolas.

Great resort with great slopes, lifts and staff. We had great weather which really showed us the resort in all it's glory, Breath-taking views of the beautiful mountains. The slopes were fairly quiet so felt confident enough to try the blacks which were super fun!

My lessons were cancelled the day before I travelled but they accommodated similar hours of private lessons which was amazing!

The lift pass is expensive but you have so much mountain to explore. Apres ski is wonderful but the restaurants are sublime!
