What Skiers Say About Val d'Isère

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Amazing place with such great atmosphere.
I always like to go and spend time at this resort for the variety of the slopes, and the quality of the apres ski venues.
L'ourse blanc for food, is always a winner and Mbar for good cocktails

An awesome place to spend a few days exploring the whole of Espace Killy.
Our favourite runs of the week included Sache and Descente (but the whole glacier is great).
Shout out to Restaurant Le Garage for apres and chill.

I have been skiing the Tignes Val D'Isere area since 1979 and despite skiing in the US and a lot of Europe I keep coming back, on this occasion I was skiing with my wife who has suffered a couple of bone breaks in the last 18 months so was a bit cautious which meant we kept to mainly blue runs - not my normal level of skiing but we found Le Fornet especially was quieter and the Blue runs were fun and the views amazing. On the two days I could ski with my other friends I found exactly what I expected, great snow coverage and well maintained runs with lots of choice off piste, it remains my favorite resort even compared to the classics such as St Anton, Kitzbuhel, the three valleys and many more.

The sheer variety of runs in Val d'Isere is overwhelming. In addition you can purchase, with your ski pass, the option of also skiing the Tignes area. A lot of runs back into the resort are red runs; if however you have tired legs, you always have the option of taking the gondola back down the mountain. Because of the popularity of Val d'Isere, it does mean that the resort, and the slopes, can become very busy. There are lots of places to eat but be aware that nothing is cheap. Top tip is to check out the apres ski times to ensure you secure the best deals on drinks.

I had the absolute best time at Val d’Isère. It was my first time skiing and there were plenty of options for private lessons and ski schools, several magic carpets and learner slopes as well as some easy greens and blues to progress to. Plenty of gondolas up and down which made it easy to access different parts of the mountain even if not skiing those sections. The après ski was the most fun I’ve ever had!! So many great restaurants, cafes, bars and shops in the village also provided options for things to do when not on the mountain. Incredible scenery and the people were lovely. Highly recommend!!

Val d’isere is a great resort for all levels of skiing, with loads of variety on and off piste. There are some really challenging runs, which is great if you’re trying to push yourself and improve your technique.
There are also fantastic restaurants in town and up the mountain.

Val D has the best apres in France, some of the best skiing, and is connected to Tignes for a massive total ski area!

Traffic can be horrendous from GVA on Saturdays, so early landing/departing flights are recommended. Or don’t travel on a Saturday!

Great resort for all abilities, up high so snow is always good. Pricey but you pay for the location. Only downside was a long transfer to and from airport.

Val has an amazing amount of choice for runs, and many mountains to ski, totally spoilt for choice. The lifts are very modern and efficient, the resort can get fairly busy especially in school holidays. Apres ski is amazing with folly, cocos and lots of bar to choose from! Accommodation and food / drinks are on the higher side as it’s more a “premium” resort, but the sheer amount of skiing available more than makes up for this! A super fun place
