Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

I have visited ‘Val’ many times. It never fails to impress. Amazing variety of terrain (linked with Tignes). Constantly improving lift system. Pretty vibrant town.

Spent 2 weeks free skiing and 2 weeks racing. Evo 2 provided an incredible quality of instructor. The snow quality and piste maintenance was very good. I had an amazing time both skiing and experiencing what the resort had to offer.

Even in a lean snow month almost all pistes were skiable. Icey runs and cold temperatures made conditions slightly harder to ski on (la face was collecting multiple bodies every day!)

Lots of lifts stoppages / closure - there when whole power went out (first week of jan! Lack of communication during that period was disappointing. Food option very good and same with apres. Naturally there hadn’t been great snow fall, so not a lots of freshly bashed slopes

The runs were amazing and so many options - can be quite icy and when there are comps you should be careful to check whether the slope u need is open - beautiful views, not very busy (max 5 min ski lift wait time) - food was definitely value for money!
