Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

We had a brilliant family trip to Val d’Isère. I’m a snowboarder and my wife and kids ski, so we wanted somewhere with great variety—and it delivered.

A big highlight for us was ski school. It made a huge difference for the kids’ confidence and meant we could all enjoy the mountain without stress. Overall, I’d say Val d’Isère suits confident skiers/boarders best: some runs felt a bit advanced if you’re trying to ski all the way down. That said, if you take the big lift/train up to the top, you can find plenty of easier, more manageable runs to get you back into the rhythm (and still have an amazing day out).

Après-ski is genuinely top-tier—lively, fun, and a real part of the experience. We even went to a nightclub near the centre one night, which was a great laugh and rounded off the trip perfectly.

If you’re a family with mixed abilities, I’d recommend it—especially if you’re happy using lifts to access the gentler areas, and if you want a resort with a proper atmosphere after skiing.

I absolutely love val disere as a ski resort. I’ve been going with my family all my life from an infant to an adult now the resort has always catered to my needs. There is a diverse range of slopes which I have never got bored of. Going over to le forne you can always find a quiet spot. The up and over lift is always fun.

We stayed in La Daille between Val d’Isere and Tignes for the second year running. This is the perfect location as there is easy access to the slopes and the ski bus allows us to travel further afield should we wish to.

The fact that there are green runs high up in the mountains really appeals to me especially as I can experience the amazing views whilst building my confidence on the many green and blue runs. I also like the fact that I can vary my runs rather than repeating the same ‘safe’ run over and over again.

Beautiful resort with everything you need for a week of skiing. Great variety of accommodations from luxury to budget friendly. Great variety of runs and areas ideal for both skiers and boarders with the added bonus of the combined ski area with Tignes. Amazing apre and nightlife, great for younger groups whilst still having plenty to do for a more relaxed group.

Really enjoy skiing Val D - ridiculous amount of runs and snow is always pretty good due to the altitude. Have been several times and I will never be tired of the views, the mountains and the apres. Long transfer but totally worth it.

Went with a group of university mates, had a great time both on and off the piste. Lucky enough to get loads of snow while out there so powder days were awesome. Only thing I’d mention is eating out in the evenings was quite expensive, however bakery in the morning and lunch on the mountain where all very good value.

I have just spent a week in Val D’isaire for my first ski trip. Huge amount of snow and great variety of runs that you can start from a complete beginner and progress easily without getting bored of the same slopes.

Val-d’Isere has to be one of the most beautiful resorts one can visit in the French Alps. The terrain is both stunning and diverse offering excellent piste riding and incredible off-piste experiences. The village itself is charming and traditional and the resort has one of the best if not the best Apres Skiing in the Alps.

Val d’isere has it all - up high, huge ski area, efficient lives, beautiful village and charm, amazing apres and bars and unreal choice of food on the mountain and in town. Varied range of on piste skiing - would say some greens are more challenging than in other resorts!
