Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

My friend and I visited Val D twice in 2024/2025 season and absolutely loved it. It's the best resort in Europe for an all encompassing experience, the skiing is amazing and ease of movement between resorts is amazing, the apres is crazy, the restaurant options are brilliant and the nightlife is fantastic.

Spent two seasons in Val working at the Moris pub back in 2010-12. Returned last year for the first time since.
Great options for abilities , family, non skiers and the enthusiasts.
High enough to get great snow when other resorts are struggling.
Great apres up the hill and in town and the restaurants and bars offer great options for little ones and the finer dinner.
Love it.

This was my first time skiing and oh my! What an experience, Val’dsere was a trip of the lifetime, everyone around is kind and talkative.

I had lessons with ESF and my instructor Mary was honestly outstanding, the knowledge and patience she had was amazing - we adventured out into the mountain's when we were ready and she gave me the confidence do blue slopes.

The accommodation was ski in ski out, self catered it gave us some variety of we wanted to stay in rest and cook or go out and eat and have a drink or two! The accommodation was cozy, warm and just what we needed.

Don’t get me wrong it is on the expensive side (€30/€40 per person) for restaurant food and drinks but it is sooo worth it!

We went to the most amazing, tasty restaurant called La Garage and WOW I would highly recommend!

My take on the slopes is that they are very well maintained for safety, when I was there the team did avalanche prevention and generally looked after the slopes every night.
It snowed for a couple of nights and the powder on the slopes was exceptional!

I was advised by my instructor if you can do a green slope in val’dsere you can do a blue/red slope anywhere - and if you can do a red slope here you can do the blacks anywhere!!

To conclude I will definitely be back!

Village has countless good ski shops. My favourite is Mattis Intersport, new kit every season and I always get the best equipment that suits me. Apres ski is very active at Follie Douce and Coco's. Oh Crazy Barms for really cheap lunches. Piste double M in tignes is always a highlight along with signal in le fornet. Also the Ok and face were really good, caught them on powder days. Tavern d'Alsace, La Peau de Vache etc really good for expensive good quality food.

I have been to Val d’isere the past couple of years and it has never disappointed. As a 21 year old with an older sibling we love the apres ski such as follie and cocoricos as well as the size of the resort so there is a different area you can ski each day. There is a slope for every single experience level of skiers and snowboarders so whether you are a pro skier or a beginner the right slope to choose is never far away

Fabulous resort and very much looking forward to heading back there. As someone who's only been skiing 3 times, I had a great time on the slopes and even managed to do a few black runs. Would love to go back on day and keep on enjoying the entertainment, food,m and of course, slopes!

Best apres ski.

Hadn’t snowed for a while so not great conditions and quite icy. Slopes very busy as peak week. Lots of pistes. Some lifts quite old and cold. Such a good vibe everywhere

Tignes- Val d’isere is our go destination for spring time ski. Never been disappointed! Due to altitude the snow is excellent for the time of the year while temperatures are much more pleasant than earlier in the season - matters when travelling with kids!
