What Skiers Say About Val d'Isère

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Had an amazing time being a novice in the resort I was apprehensive, though nothing to worry about as the slopes, lifts not forgetting the Apres are second to none.
I had private instruction from a guy who was brilliant despite my lack of fitness and ability taught me lots in my days
The social scene was really top notch with a great atmosphere and friendly hosts.
Eating out was fantastic with plenty to offer for all levels and non skiers alike due to the spa hotels and shopping
All in all an amazing experience and place that I would recommend to anyone considering taking a holiday here.

Val D'Isere was an incredible resort. A good amount of each level of runs, great apres ski, didn't feel too expensive, and had a good crowd. Also well maintained slopes and easy access to surrounding resorts should you get a 3 valleys pass.

Been to Val D’Isere twice now with a group of friends. The vibes are immaculate here, the best party scene, unreal slopes and never ending runs. It can be a bit on the pricier side but 100% worth it. There’s so many lovely places to eat/drink. My favourite ski resort.

It was my first time in Val di’sere - absolutely loved it! Normally I go to Switzerland but now I’d definitely like to visit Val more! The lift staff were super friendly and helpful. Delicious food and great Apres which I loved! The resort is great for both skiers and boarders, with a great variety of runs, enabling everyone to enjoy it! I was there for new year which was super fun too, and the tourist office gave really good advice for what was going on so we really made the most of it! Can’t recommend Val di’sere enough!!

We went out as a family with partners and found there was a great verity of slopes for all experiences. Loved how wide some of the slopes were and can easily find quiet places. Chair lifts busy but lines kept moving with very little wait time. Dropped down into Tigne for a day and really enjoyed the panoramic run and restaurant. The Folie douce is THE place to go followed by cocorico. Food is excellent and the milkshakes in the Roxy cafe are great after a day skiing or going to the pool to relax. We skied every day as snow was great but love how there are alternative options in the sport centre.

A great resort with plenty of different accommodation options and various lifts from the town. A large ski area which include Tigne and the glacier. A great family friendly snow park at the top of the bubble lift with magic carpet. ESF beginner ski school in the town is very good.

We’ve been to Val d’Isère several times, but this was the first time out of school holidays and it was so much quieter. We were incredibly lucky with the weather as there had been a lot of snowfall the previous week, but mostly blue skies when we were there. As a result snow quality was amazing.

There are so many runs for every type of skier and a huge area to ski. We particularly loved the top end of Val - across the up & over lift. It is high, quieter than the lower area and Tignes and excellent snow and variety. We would ski back down to le fornet and get the free bus back to town (a short journey) after a drink at the bottom.

Having said that, our very favourite run is the Grand Pré - a green run on the other side. We say ‘the sun always shines on the Grand Pre’. It’s a lovely wide run, often quiet, and the new restaurant there is an excellent addition. It’s a great run to get your ski legs back at the start of a holiday.

We’ve been to several different ski areas in France & Austria, but Val d’Isere is by far our favourite.

I went to val 2 times over Christmas 2015/2018 & love the place. Massive ski area with wide long runs. We had the lift pass allowing us to go over to tignes also which was great for the beginners of our group. Would love the chance to return one day

Incredible resort with a crazy expanse of mountains to ski - you just keep going over the next one and it looks like you’re in a completely new resort! Super cool ski parks and there was even a freestyle event in which was fun to watch. Lots of apres as well to keep the party alive all night, I really don’t remember how we got back one night! But busses run into the late hours so always way to get back along with plenty of Ubers
