Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Great resort, snow sure with a huge ski area. Some nice places to stay and generally all near the slopes. Plenty of great restaurants and shops. It’s at the more glamorous end of the resort spectrum without being silly. Have been many times and always had a good trip

Loved my first trip to Val D’isere! As an intermediate skier, it has loads of options for great skiing and close to places like Tignes to get even more skiing and new runs!

The town is amazing with great food and shops!

Would love to go back!

We came to Val d’isere as a mixed group, with 3 complete beginners. I was nervous because of Val d’isere’s reputation for being more difficult than other resorts, but we had a great time! The blues probably are harder than other resorts, but they are so much fun and we all had a great time!! Apres was fun, though I thought Folie Douce is mega overrated and Coco ricos is much more fun. We also went to le hibou (?) for more chilled drink and food and would recommend there too cos it also had a happy hour!!

As a beginner skier I found the graduation from ski school to blue quite tough. I wish there were a few easier runs to cut your teeth on.

Incredible resort! So many runs and in great conditions on the piste! Few rocky runs here and there and no as much snow as in March 2025 but they were doing a great job of making snow and keeping the piste in great condition. Have booked to go back in 6 weeks time

Phenomenal resort - huge ski area between Val D’Isere and Tignes. Glaciers mean there’s always decent skiing. Fantastic apres at La Folie Douce and Cocorico. Lovely restaurants in resort and on the mountain

I traveled to Val d’Isere to enjoy my first European ski trip - I had a fabulous time the first half of my first day - had an excellent private lesson - but then I got horribly sick and did not get to experience all the resort had to offer! I was SO excited for this experience and it unfortunately got cut very short, so it would be amazing to win a trip to go back.

This is the only resort I've actually been too twice it was so good. Skiied in and out. The runs are well prepared.

We skiied so much more than usual. The lifts were excellent. The only queuing was down in Tignes.

It's a great ski area with free buses between the resorts if your tired.

Restaurants were excellent. Though it is very expensive. Lunch and dinner will set you back £200 a day for the two of you. But the food is excellent. Service very good too.

My only real issue was the transfer to resort. If the police invoke the slow down where they set the traffic lights to 20 minute at red then like us it can take 8+ hours to get from airport to resort. The second time we took the train and then a 40 minute taxi ride to Val d'isere.

A great resort but not cheap.

Amazing resort, very technical and fun. Snow was thin for the time of year, normally would have done a lot of off piste however this time was mostly on piste
