Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Fantastic resort for all levels and even non-skiers who just want to visit the alps with family. Everything you could want is nestled inside a picturesque alpine town and sat right on the edge of one of the best ski areas around!

Honestly is my favourite resort and I’ve been skiing for 23 years. Did a full season here and never ran out of things to do or got bored of the runs, apres and town. 10/10 destination for both ski / snowboarders and non skiers wanting to enjoy a beautiful town

Always love Val and Tignes, getting a little older now so real off piste a no also blacks on an icy day a challenge.
But Val has it all and tie that with great apres ski would recommend for real skiers, party goers and family groups. Also try the Chalet Hotels an make a few new friends.

Needs a good snow however almost all groomed runs have enough snow however are kind of icy especially red and black runs. The face was very icy due to it being iced for the races the week before. Resort felt quieter than usual for Christmas week compared to previous years.

Even though I went very early in the season, the snow was amazing, majority of runs were open, apres scene is incredible especially Cocoricos. Restaurants are amazing for both budget and luxury as well as accommodation. Definitely one of my top ski resorts I’ve been to.

Wow - what a resort. So much fun. Has everything you want from a ski holiday. Great ski in - ski out accommodation. Lots of fun bars, clubs, restaurants and shopping. Beautiful old french village with great markets. Lovely cinema and local leisure centre with nice spa area and large swimming pool and also a family friendly pool area. Climbing walls and great gym too.

Great tree and mogul runs up on Le Fornet and La Daille. Good bus routes to get you to different areas of the town.

I visistef Val desere for my first time ever skiing and I absolutely loved it. The ski school was amazing and I left being able to ski blue runs after never skiing before. The whole resort was fantastic. The snow was brilliant, there was a huge dump before we left and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Absolutely love coming to Val D’isere. The apres is fantastic and the skiing is also brilliant. To ski back to Val D’isere you have to be of a good standard as the runs are either red or black, and get icy and busy in the afternoon.

The ski area of Val D’Isère is huge and you can also gain access to all areas in Tignes if you buy an extended pass, ensuring there are runs for everyone. The resort itself has a great atmosphere and lots to do whether you’re a skier or not. The bars offer great après, and there are lots of places to eat. However the resort is very expensive compared to many other resorts in France or Austria. Particularly the accommodation, where you can stay for considerably cheaper just over the mountain in Tignes and still access all the same ski areas.

Stayed in La daille which is great for access to tignes and the wider area. Busses are efficient for getting around resort. Plenty of eating options in the evening, including takeaway. Ski school used was evolution 2 which was excellent.
