Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Fantastic resort with plenty of runs to match any skill level. I had little to no ques on the lifts and the monorail takes seconds to lift you to the top of the mountains, unbelievable. I hope Ill be back soon.

It is such a good area because it has so many different kinds of slopes and it so big you can ski different slopes every day. It is also easy to navigate around with signs all over the place

Pros:
- HUGE ski area
- Great, consistent lifts with low queues
- Good variety of advanced runs
- Fun nightlife
- Great variety of food options
- Lots of different villages to go through
- Snow seems consistently better than other resorts

Cons:
- Tough getting back from Tignes if you’re not careful with time
- One of the more expensive options for the alps (and Europe in general)

A great resort overall! Been going skiing there for the last few years and it does not disappoint, especially during peak seasons (xmas & nye). There are some great apres at Follie Douce and then Bollin. Pistes are wide and long so if you go early you can get in a few hours of clean carving!

Val D’Isere was incredible. The ski runs, the restaurants (on and off piste), the APRÉS!!! Our accommodations were amazing, the town was easily navigated and the people were friendly. For a Canadian, the value for money to ski was very high - the amount of terrain that is included in the lift pass was well above expectations. Highly recommend.

Val d’Isère is an outstanding ski resort that truly lives up to its reputation. The ski area is vast and well-connected, with a great mix of runs for all levels. The snow conditions are excellent, especially on the higher slopes with excellent modern lifts.

The village has a mixture of accommodation, plenty of choice with hotel and flats of all levels. Despite all the choice the town has kept its charm throughout!

Access to the lifts and the main ski area is very simple with the buses that run up and down the main road meaning you don’t have to stay on the side of the slopes.

Great choice of apes bars and restaurants to choose from! Overall the resort has world class skiing, breathtaking scenery with plenty going on. I love retuning back to this report whenever possible, I don’t think you can beat it

If there’s good snow hit the Solaise first. Make sure you do the long drop - Fornet all the way down to La Daille.
Folie Douce needs to be early to early to avoid the madness!
If you get a puncture in the hire car, as we did and only discovered on the morning you are leaving, there’s a garage that can fix tyres in La Daille.
Lunch should definitely include the restaurant half way down the Bellevarde - Peau de Vache.
Snow parks can be busy. The big one has some not so scary hits for intermediates wanting to grow in confidence.

I recently visited Val d'isere ski resort for the first time, and it was an incredible experience! Having skied in various locations over the years, I was pleasantly surprised by the charm of this town.

The picturesque streets are perfect for a romantic stroll, allowing you to soak in the beautiful surroundings. Dining options are fantastic, from 5 start restaurants to grabbing a pizza and a beer; I particularly enjoyed the new Black Sheep Bar, which offers a great atmosphere and delicious food, from pizza to burgers.

Overall, Val d'isere is a brilliant place to unwind after a day on the slopes. It combines excellent skiing with a charming town experience, making it a must-visit destination for anyone looking for a memorable getaway. Highly recommended!

Excellent resort! Fantastic skiing despite poor snow conditions at lower altitudes.

Restaurants and accommodation have gone upmarket in recent years at the risk of pricing out many long time skiers. Nevertheless there are still value for money options out there making this a 5* resort

This place is the best place to go skiing, for beginners there is green and blue runs so high up the quality of snow for beginners is so good. There is also lots of off piste areas as well as including Tignes snow areas too. And the infamous up and down ski chair lift which makes a great picture.

Val d'Isere was a great resort to visit with a group of friends and as a beginner skier.

The resort including Tignes gives you a whole week of exploring different runs with awesome Apres ski.

There are various different villages for you to stay in with a great free shuttle bus that can ferry you to different lifts or areas.

My ski lessons started in La daille and this was situated in a perfect location to get up the mountain with the funival and daille ski lifts.

I had a great time and would recommend the resort and the ESF ski school at La Daille.
