Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Perfect resort for young couple. Lots of fun activities around and on the slopes. Apres ski on the slopes was very good. Great atmosphere in the resort. One of my favourites so far.

Great week here - slightly more expensive than other similar resorts but also offers a great spa. Renting equipment is easy and reasonably priced.

Brilliant resort, which has grown and expanded, since I first visited in the early 80s and Dick T Bar was the place to be.
Offers all types of ski runs and huge variety of slopes.
The ski schools are very good and the lift system excellent, including 2 funiculars throughout the ski domain.
The snow holding of Val D’Isere and neighbouring Tignes right up there and obviously important with changing snow conditions - there are also 2 main glaciers @ Pisaillas and the Grande Motte above Tignes.
Tip: If conditions are bad head to tree runs above Le Fornet or ski down to Tignes Les Brevieres via La Sache, a brilliant run in all conditions, especially for the better skier.
Loads of off piste options reachable from the pistes.
Downsides: pricey and can get busy in peak times - the lift pass is not cheap, but it gives access to a big area and all types of terrain

Val d’iserè is the most idyllic yet lively resort Ive ever visited, there really is something for everyone. The bars, restaurants and nightlife are exceptional and also the leisure activities. The sports complex is very impressive with a large gym and swimming room centred right in the centre of the resort. The surround ski options are outstanding and offer a huge range of abilities. This means queues for lifts are minimal even at busy periods as you can reach a lot of different ski areas from the central point. The bus service around the resort also makes it even easier to navigate across the large resort. No place quite like it, will only ski here from now on.

Love Val. I went once things were opening up again after covid and it was great! Had an apartment that looked onto the ski lifts so everything was so convenient and easy. It was quiet as it was just after lockdown but had an unreal time there.

Val d’isere is a beautiful resort up high in the French alps at around 1850m with the slopes reaching 3400m. It is just under 3 hours drive from Geneva (GVA) airport and 2 hours drive from (CMF) airport. Val d’isere has a great apres-ski life including Cocorico my favourite.

I spent a week in Feb 2024 in Val d’Isere with 2 of my close mates and it was such a fun trip. I have been a few times over the years but one of my mates had never been before and it was nice getting to show them the ropes. The resort is a vibe in itself and the snowboarding is always decent. Feb was good because there was a large amount of snow coverage and a good amount of well groomed runs lower down for my mate to practice on. Also with it being so close to Tignes there’s so much terrain to explore.
Lifts are pretty efficient compared to some resorts so you don’t spend a lot of time queuing even when it’s busy.
There are great off-piste if you know where to look or if you go with a guide and there is also terrain parks to keep things interesting.
Defo recommend getting up early at least one of the days visiting to make the most of the quieter morning runs and exploring Tignes is a must since you’d be so close! If you’re snowboarding just be careful of a couple of flat run-outs that aren’t super friendly.
All in all, great atmosphere on and off the mountain so I always recommend :)

Wonderful experience at Val D’Isere!!

Considering it was early season there was still great snow coverage. Traveled with my husband who was on a snowboard and he enjoyed going off piste to enjoy the snow. It was a beautiful day and for a Saturday we were pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was. No lift lines and managed to get a ton of runs in. Can’t wait to return
