What Skiers Say About Val d'Isère

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

There's no better resort than Val D'Isere; runs for skiers and boarders of all standards, some of the longest runs in Europe and a great day to be had skiing over to Tignes and back (but don't miss the last return lifts or you're in an expensive taxi). Apres-ski, bars and night life great, lovely restaurants and accommodation ranging from all-in chalets to five star hotels (which I've yet to stay in unfortunately). Can't beat it.

Do as much as possible, plenty of piste to explore so a long stay would be suggested especially if you’re getting a tignes-val d’isere lift pass.

Good resort, expensive, efficient lifts, lots of runs already open in December so happy. Prices of food and drink main downfall

Valdisere is a great resort whether you are a beginner and having never skied or are well seasoned and want a bit f adventure - it offers something for everyone. The ski area across Valdisere and tignes offers a lot more than most resorts with lift accessibility being a key feature. There are plenty of great mountain restaurants from La panoramic (not forgetting you can ski down from the glacier!) to the world famous Folie douce. In the village there are lots of shops, restaurants and nightlife. Overall it is my favourite ski resort and once you visit you understand why

Great week with les ski.

Great resort would not say its beginner friendly though.

Very lucky with the weather. Town has lots of options for dinning but catered chalet was a real game changer for us.

Val D’isere has been my ski resort of choice since I first did a ski season there in 2009 (followed by a further 2 seasons and 2 holidays more recently)
It’s where I learnt to board and ski- you might sometimes hear it’s not good for beginners- but i disagree, I think the range of runs for a beginner is great, and the beginner slope is one of the better ones I know.
As for more advanced skiers and boarders, for me, nothing compares to the Espace Killy. Then for those preferring the social side- the apres and restaurants are great ♥️

Great resort for a lads / lasses / party trip. Some excellent skiing on offer but some runs leading in can be busy as only difficult blues back into the resort with going down the lifts.

Been to Val past 3 seasons. Great skiing and great apres. Something to ski whatever the conditions. Easy runs to bottom of town for less confident skiers and can bus back up to centre if you don’t want to download in the bubble at main lifts. Loads of great places to eat on slopes and in town. Can be spenny.

Myself and my girlfriend went to Val d’isere for her second ski trip. I have visited many times. It consistently has some of the best snow in the alps, a mix of cruise-y blues and greens for her and over the years I have enjoyed the off-piste there too. It has great night life. This all does come at a cost but I think that the price to go to Val d’isere is one I would continue to pay for the high quality skiing and facilities.
