Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Enormous ski-able area suitable for experts and beginners (beginners may need a lift down sometimes to skip harder runs at the bottom). The lift system is second to none and you rarely have to queue- and if you do it goes quickly. They invest heavily in the lifts. With a guide, there is a huge area of off piste to explore, you will not get bored. It’s high up so has much more snow than many other resorts, it is extremely rare for pistes to not be skiable. Apres ski is great but expensive.

Val is simply my favourite place to ski. I've been 3 times in total and would spend the whole season out there if have the opportunity.

Most of the town is ski to door in the winter or at least a very short walk apres and food is spot on.

Love Val! Amazing ski area, apres and restaurants. Runs back into town are not the most beginner friendly but there is a brilliant beginner area up the mountain and get lift links from the main areas back down. Eating and drinking out is expensive. Quite a long transfer from the airport, usually about 3hrs, but it does mean you get very high up the mountain and great snow sure conditions.

Beautiful resort with a lot of skiing. Lifts and gondolas are very good and never too busy. Great choice of restaurants and if staying for Christmas, the town looks great and festive. I would recommend the resort to anyone.

I’ve spent quite a lot of time in Val D’Isere and it’s one of my favourite resorts. It’s a huge skiable area, with a skiable connection with Tignes, and the surrounding villages. I’ve stayed there for a month at a time and have been kept busy for the whole duration. There’s a lot of variation, and because the resort is quite high and there’s the glacier, you can always find some great snow.

Plenty of off-piste options (at your own risk) but it’s worth noting that waiting for a decent dump of snow is worthwhile, so you’re not left with crusty ice.

For intermediate and advanced skiers, Val D’Isere is a great resort. It’s probably not the best for beginners, due to quite steep runs directly into the resort, but there are still lots of options - there’s several ski schools to choose from!

The town is beautiful and lively, with plenty of options for eating and drinking on different budgets (although all-round a bit expensive, as is the case in most resorts). Bus routes through town are frequent and run well into the evening.

Great skiing, fun apres options, and great family run restaurants around town!

Myself and friend have visited Val d’isere a few times and every time has been great. The height and size of the resort gives you good snow, and good variation of runs, especially if you have the Tignes pass included.
The apres is the best we’ve ever experienced with loads of places to go for after ski drinks.
