Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Attractive resort but very expensive, lovely hotel in centre of resort les cretes blanches. Tough runs back to resort.

Amazing resort with some of the best runs around and beautiful towns and restaurants. Slightly on the harder side of intermediate, the standard blue is more like a red in most other French resorts.

Very good quality skiing at a price and not affordable for most people or people on a budget. Good efficient ski system and high altitude skiing

The best resort there is. Such a big ski area, awesome apres and a very pretty town. Plenty of powder to the side of the slopes.

The resort is great. Very picturesque and pretty in the village. Getting up to the slopes is easy via the buses (free) that service the village, dropping and picking up and main locations. Great is youre a beginner to advanced skier. Lots of variety for everyone. Its an expensive resort however the experience was amazing !

I loved val disere, it is like an upper class party resort but also full of families and very suitable for family holidays. There were no uni students here which I find common at most more party resorts, so the crowd was older when going to Apres ski and out at night, which was much better. There was a lot of piste options, the ends of all the runs were red slopes coming back down into the town so most beginners would travel back down in the ski lifts. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone as it does cover everything and the views are genuinely stunning due to the resort starting so high and sitting in a valley there is no part of the view without snow!

We travelled to Val dIsère in March of last year. There was no fresh snow but plenty of coverage to enjoy all the mountain. Almost everything is above the tree line so there were not as many tree glades as Id hoped for. There are only a few groomed trails down to the main village so they can get pretty busy at peak times. Otherwise, the mountain is huge and the lifts are incredibly fast allowing for exploration of such a large area. There are many cute restaurants to choose from on and off the slopes. The club on the mountain is a fun bonus addition to pop by and experience. Coco rico has a great après ski vibe.

Amazing! One of the best places I have skied so far! Checks all the boxes. Great skiing, great food, GREAT Apres. Will be going back!! And if you are looking for a more budget friendly option you can stay in Tignes as there are buses back and forth. Highly recommended

First time staying in Val dIsère but ridden the area a few times with the Espace Killy lift pass. Its a great overall resort with a brilliant range of piste riding, and off-piste opportunities, as well as having a more relaxed atmosphere in the town itself. Great food and amenities accompany the terrain, providing something for everyone

Ive been to Val DIsere many times and each time I go it makes me want to go back. The town is so pretty and the people there so friendly. Theres such good skiing every day to explore and you have options to ski/board to Tignes too. Apres ski is amazing, you have Folie Douche and of course CoCo Ricos which is honestly the best apres bar Ive ever experienced. In town theres some really nice places to eat and in the mountains too - I just love it there and great shopping also in the town. Cant wait to go back already!

Val DIsere is an upmarket resort which caters for all but especially well for advanced and expert skiers. There is a great range of off piste skiing and a good community which surrounds it, with guides available and mixed off piste guided groups. There is a great apres scene and some really nice restaurants, be sure to book if there is somewhere you really want to go.

Id take the mountains over a beach any day. Skiing has been my favourite holiday since I can remember, it lends itself to my Duracell bunny-like character and the mountain landscape never fails to amaze me. My love affair with skiing started back when I was just 3 but I cant say I was a fan back then, so Im told I cried for the duration. But skip a few years, to those of which I have a recollection, and I would fizz at the thought of heading to the Alps, the place we most frequented on family ski holidays. Ive been very lucky to have skied at many French resorts, including Chamonix, Les Arc, Morzine, Les 3 Vallées, La Plagne, Avoriaz and Alpe d'Huez but never had I visited Val DIsère. Sitting at 1850 meters, this prime spot appeals to a sporty crowd of serious skiers, quite like myself. But dont be fooled into thinking that it's all go and no play. Val DIsère strikes a balance for die-hard skiers and high-end travellers, with a stream of exceptional restaurants, incredible hotels and alpine activities. Lets take you through why in just 4 days, Val DIsère has fast-tracked its way to top spot on my ski resort's little black book.

Val D'isere is regularly named one on the best ski resorts for a reason. Everything just works, it's all very well connected with Tignes and the bus system is excellent. The lift queues at busier times move quickly. The Piste is always really well looked after, and there is something for everyone.. If you're keen enough to get fresh tracks after a fresh snow fall the off piste is world class. We used The ESF and Evo 2 on different occasions for ski school and both were excellent and caring with our kids age 5 and 7. The choice of restaurants is varied and it has one of the best pastry shops in France in the village. Val D'isere is truly a brilliant holiday, you get what you pay for. My late dad used to say " You remember the experience long after you've forgotten the bill"

Amazing ski areas with top class groomed runs. Perfect access to off piste; with every standard of skier accommodated. The town is always lively, with some good quality restaurants and fun bars to hangout in.One downside is that over the last few years it seems to be moving away from the core rustic, riding, party scene. More towards Courchevel/Meribel vibes, very high end clientele, just for rich and elite. Prices have gone through the roof.
