Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

We stayed in the hotel laigle des neiges which is now the experimental chalet Val Disere Hotel. It was beautiful and clean, ski in, ski out, hotel staff were super helpful, kids loved it too. Would love to go back.

Part of the espace killy, this is a large and varied resort. Plenty of off piste runs and groomed pistes and good fast lifts to get you there.

Folie douce for apres is fun and there are some fun bars on piste.

Long season and pretty much guaranteed snow.

Hard to beat for me

It is hard to out-ski Val. There is such a variety on offer with good linked access to other areas. The height provides good conditions & there is something for everyone whatever your ability or ride.
It is costly but a great option.

There's a reason Val d'Isere is always top of list of European ski resorts to visit. It's just the best! With it's high elevation you're almost guaranteed good snow, even in bad years, and I have experienced the best of piste snowboarding of my life there. There are so many runs to choose from depending on your level or the conditions and the town is beautiful too with fantastic free bus connections between villages. My top "Secret" recommendation is to find the Vallee Perdue (a really fun off piste narrow run through a tight gully) which is great fun but especially on low visibility days as it's well sheltered and makes for excellent GoPro footage!

Amazing Ski Resort I have been 3 times and each time gets better, ski area is massive you could ski for a week and not ski the same slope twice.

Plenty of food and drink options and tignes is really close too.

Great transport buses running through town regularly.

I have been coming to Val DIsere / Tignes Espace Killy for over 20yrs and I love it. Ive even come in the summer months to ski on the Glacier for race training.

My girlfriend and I are still currently in Val DIsere and we have had the best time, staying at Club Med, all inclusive, where the service is exceptional, it is quite pricy but everything is pretty much included except if you need to hire ski equipment. You get lessons, ski passes, and the food is very very very good considering it is buffet which I am not usually a fan of.

For Apres Ski, the place to be is La Folie Douce and then on to Cocoricos! And there are plenty of great bars around with good atmospheres!

Whilst here we had some heavy snow fall, which made for a good few powder days however towards the end of the day there was a lot of huge moguls which made skiing even Blue Runs difficult for my girlfriend who is intermediate level. So it was not as enjoyable for her then.

I will continue to come back to Val DIsere and Tignes as it holds a special place in my heart as its where my grandad took me many times growing up, and will look forward to one day bringing my children here to experience such a special place that is the Espace Killy.

Highly recommend to anyone to come here and experience the 300km of great skiing in a truly beautiful mountain range.

I found Val disere to be a skier and snowboarders paradise in terms of the varety of the slopes and the efficiency and speed of the transport and infrastructure across the slopes. With over 300 km available for riding, the queues rarely get busy and the quality of the slopes is of high standard most times. The only thing id say could be improved is value for money as eating out can get a little pricey, same as the price for getting a drink at the apres ski. You also have 2 days of using the local spa and swimming as part of the weekly ski pass which i found very relaxing after a day of riding.
Overall, i would give val disere a 4/5 rating.

Unreal resort, so much coverage and the slopes are good for all types of skiers, apres ski is very good and the restaurants are lovely but very busy so Id recommend pre booking where possible. The shuttle bus is ideal to reach other parts of the mountain and resorts. Would highly recommend
