Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Groomed runs were in great condition every day. We were lucky to get a good amount of snow early on. The lifts were great, always open on time and very little queuing when we were there. The accomodation was great, and the town itself was really nice. Everything g you need in close proximity. Apres at folie and cocos is always on point

Went to Val dIsère over Christmas. Its a good ski resort but high-class/expensive. We got unlucky with the weather and had a snow storm,. Lots of closed slopes and the connection to Tignes was closed as a result as well. Otherwise had a beautiful sunny ski day day one. The snow up top is good; but at the bottom gets icier. However it should get better as the season is at its peak.

Val dIsère is easily one of the top three resorts in Europe!
Taking everything into account, ski area, lift system, verity of piste, après, off piste skiing, eating out, accessibility, bus system, quality of town etc it is hard to beat.
The skiing is vast, all the lifts get to where you want to be and fast, eating on the slopes is amazing, great après/nightlife, beautiful town. The bus system in town run until the early hours and bus sees come every 5-10mins and take you to exactly where you need to go.

Good for all abilities with a preference for intermediates through to experts.

Only down side is that its the longest transfer from the closest airports. Can be busy during peak weeks but so can any ski resort.

Had a wonderful time skiing, vast selection of runs. A little pricey but most places are now. However there seems to be limited runs for beginners. Which made it a little tricky for people who were part of our group.

Val D'isere is a resort you need to go to at least once! Incredible resort, plenty to do and an abundance of runs for all levels. Either going up the Olympic bubble or the solaise chair lift, there is plenty of green and blue runs for morning and afternoon ski to keep you in the sun. All the runs and well groomed and vary wide and cruisy to more fun narrower tree runs and into challenging blacks & reds

Great resort, although can be a bit expensive to eat out all the time. Definitely go inside of UK and French term time as the slopes are a bit quieter. The ski pass includes 2 free swims at the Aquasportif, which is great when youve had a hard day on the slopes and want to relax your muscles.

This is an perfect resort for balance -ski, apres, food. For beginners its not so great, as you need to head to the top of the mountain to get the baby slopes.

Val Disere is a great ski resort that offers the full package for all groups from families to party goers. Extensive skiing for a levels on offer and a good place to learn if you require lessons. There is a good mix of accommodation options, and I think it has the best offering of chalets in the Alps. By no means a budget option, but reasonably priced in the grand scheme of skiing in the alps. Has also been a pretty safe bet weather wise for skiing between Jan and March over the last few years. Cannot rate Val D highly enough!

An incredible ski resort that I'd recommend to skiers, boarders and even non-skiers.There's so much to do and see. Fantastic restaurants and bars.We drove from Northampton to the Alps and would highly recommend it for the views and to save money on flights. Our chalet was amazing and central to all the shops and restaurants and only a few minutes walk to the slopes.Favourite apres ski bars would be Cocorico and Folie Douche on the mountain.

Val d'Isere has to be up there with the best ski resorts in Europe, if not the world. There is a huge choice of runs and it is possible to spend more than a week exploring totally new routes that you won't have skied before. The facilities are excellent with lots of cafés and restaurants strategically positioned around the resort. If the mountains are snowbound there is plenty to do in the village to keep a family occupied. The only slight downside is I wouldn't describe the resort as good value for money. If you are traveling on a tight budget, make sure you plan well and bring plenty of vacuum flasks as even stopping for a quick coffee on the mountain is not cheap. That all being said Val d'Isere is my favourite French resort and I can't wait to go again!

We had blue skies all week, perfect weather to ski on the beautiful mountains. The runs are great for a beginner whos never skied before (but beware the last run to the Follie is quite steep!). mountains have a good range for those intermediate skiers too. The grand motte is definitely not one to miss too, stunning views and more challenging skiing. Great apres, all round fabulous trip
