Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

A huge ski area with a diverse range of pistes. Lots of good restaurants for lunch on the mountain and in neighbouring resorts.
Val dIsere town has everything you need including supermarkets, a pharmacy, swimming pool, restaurants and bars.
The highlight for me is aprés at Cocorico! Excellent live bands every afternoon, after (as aprés should be) the lifts close, you can ski in but it can also be walked up to from town. So much fun!

Val DIsere is my favourite place to ski. The Espace Killy is a wide spread mountain full of a variety of ski runs to suit everyone. What I love about it, is you can take new snow goers (young or old) and they will not feel left out as there are plenty of greens and blues which make it interesting for the competent skier too. A good range of refreshment stops darted about on the mountain for food, drink or a meet up point. Lifts queues can look busy but they do tend to go down fairly quickly. Ive not experience ski school but from looking they appear to run a nice relaxed schedule with a lot of fun in between. Fully recommend taking the gondola up to the Grande Motte for lunch and to either ski the red or black down or take the gondola back down if thats suits you. Spectacular views.

It is a great resort for all levels of skiers. Some slopes to learn on while also some great red/blacks to challenge. There are loads of restraunts around the resort as well as really fun apres ski options. Great for families, young and couples. Like many other resorts it can be quite pricey, but if you do research you can find reasonable alternatives.

I have been to this resort at least x 20. If I could only ski one week per year I would choose this resort beginning of April / week before Easter.
Huge ski area which is incredibly integrated with neighbouring resort of Tignes.
With some effort its easy to visit all 4 corners of the piste map in a single day.
Skiing is brilliant. Village / resort is high end and picturesque.
Plenty choice for eating out but not cheaply.
Overall I love this resort.

Val d'Isère is a premier ski destination offering a world-class experience for those willing to indulge in its upscale offerings. Renowned for its vibrant après-ski scene, it boasts an eclectic mix of lively bars and refined restaurants, making it the perfect place to unwind after a day on the slopes. The resort features extensive ski terrain suitable for all levels, along with breathtaking alpine scenery. While its charm and amenities come with a premium price tag, the quality of service, facilities, and atmosphere justify the expense for many visitors. Val d'Isère truly delivers a luxury alpine escape.

Access to Tignes is probably the best part of the resort. Some icy runs nearer the main lifts and gondola but still a great resort overall. Snow park and black runs up on the far right side of the resort are great! Overall a bit expensive but lovely resort.

Val DIsere is amongst the best of the French resorts (and has the prices to match)
A huge ski range that links with Tignes is aimed at mostly intermediate skiers. There is some more advanced options and with a guide some amazing off piste/back country to explore.
It is a very popular, very busy resort, so dont expect any quiet runs.

Very high up so lots of snow, had a couple of great powder days when i was there. Terrain park was brilliant for our whole group, from tiny jumps for beginners right up to much harder things for the more advanced lads. Easy to ski over to Tignes as well to explore more of the area. Have to recommend Folie Douche, CoCoRico and Dicks tea bar to anyone who wants to experience the night life as well!

Val disere is definitely one of the prettiest French resorts I have been to. Many of the ski spots have stunning views and village is lovely. The ski area is large combining with Tignes and ski between the two is pretty easy. I went for xmas week- we had a lot of snow on the first 2 days and then no snow after- but the slopes stayed in pretty good condition. There is a lots of options on greens, blues and reds- the only challenge is the run back to resort is a long and icy in parts black. However you can use the telecabin to download and then take a short chair lift so you still end your day skiing. Apres ski wise Cocorico is good fun near the base.

Fantastic terrain for all abilities. Can become very busy in peak weeks.

Good uplift system keeps queues to a minimum. Good apres ski and plenty of Restuarants in the town itself.

Can be very expensive in comparison to other resorts nearby.

That was minimal apres ski and only two local bars, but the locals were very friendly. We enjoyed our time, however more shop options and a more walkable town would have been very helpful, including some ski-in hotel options.
