Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Val d’Isère is an iconic, high-altitude French ski resort with vast, varied terrain, reliable snow, lively après-ski and charming alpine village vibes — though it can be busy and pricey in peak season.

Val d’Isere has it all. It’s beautiful village including the old village in the centre and le fornet. The skiing suits all abilities from beginners to experts. Something to do for everyone, so if not skiing there are good family/picnic zones and accessible mountain restaurants. One of the highest resorts so most likely of a chance to have snow over lower resorts. Ski area is enormous when linked with Tignes. Good choice of bars and evening restaurants .

Massive area, so there's always somewhere with good snow, no matter what the weather or snow conditions. Off piste tends to get tracked out reasonably fast, but there are some excellent long, technical off piste runs. High, so usually has good snow. Expensive resort, but can be done reasonably by choosing self-catered accommodation and buying food down the mountain in Bourg (on the way up if you drive, bus and train access if not). But true outstanding skiing, huge range of runs, can ski for weeks and always find something new.

Resort was amazing, this is the second time I’ve been and would go again. Apres was great, lifts were great considering we went during peak season, everything was amazing.

Looking forward to going again.

Great place to ski, we stayed in La Dallie area which was great ski in and ski out accommodation. A free shuttle bus runs all day and into the evening for access into the main town. There were lots of great options for eating and drinking however I would recommend booking for more choice.

The skiing was great. We had excellent snow and the amount of slopes was fantastic. You can easily get the up and over lift for even more runs! Would highly recommend and hope to be back soon!

I have visited Val d’isere four times now and it has to be my favourite resort in France! The lifts are reliable, it has a large ski area as part of the Espace Killy, the snow is always good and it has great options for après. It is more tailored to intermediate and advanced skiers but is also a great resort to visit if you want to progress in your skiing as it pushes you out of your comfort zone a little!

Visited val 3 times now every time its been a blast with friends. Its pricey but the area has so much to offer its worth it everytime.
They have great chair lifts/ gondola links, the runs are well maintained. Down in the village there plenty of shops and places to stay, several food options to suite everyone. Ski hire shops in multiple locations also make it easy if you need to hire or buy new gear.
