Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Had an amazing time, never had a boring day. There was a huge variety of runs all offering something different and despite the huge size of the resort was eaay to navigate. After a days skiing there was always plenty to do be it night sledging in tinges going out to get some food or exploring the local nightlife. Final point everyone i met was incredibly friendly and welcoming.

Amazing resort! Apres is superb. Not great for non confident skiers in my opinion and pretty pricey! Well run lifts and slopes and loads of restaurants with fantastic service.

Val D'Isere has a very special place in my heart as the location of my first ski trip.
I've been back many times over the last 30 years and I'm always impressed how they manage the slopes and are always improving the lift system. Off piest area is vast and the snow record is one of the most reliable in the Alps.
The night life is amazing and so varied, something for all in a beautiful village.
Once you visit you'll be hooked. See you out in Val D'Isere some time soon.

Get up early and get to Apres early. Get a private chef, much cheaper than eating out every day and maximise ski time.

We had a fantastic week with friends over Christmas at Val d’Isere! There were lots of activities on including an awesome light show. We loved the skiing but just wished we had better weather! Being able to ski tignes as well was great - lots of runs meant quiet pistes when further out from the resort. A wonderful time.

It can get very busy over Christmas and new years so making sure you have any extra activities / food places booked is important . Make sure to get the 3 valleys pass as the options make it worth the money! Try and get out early in the morning as the lifts can get very busy around 915/930. It is generally on the more expensive side for food / drink on the mountain so prepare for this or use the supermarkets in the villages to stock up!

It’s definitely a top resort but what no one usually considers is that it’s one of two resorts so near, it’s also worth getting the taxi around to Tignes to have a change of scenery for one night

We enjoyed a short pre-Christmas trip to see our son who is working the season in Val D’Isere. This is the first time we have been away in December as we usually go in Feb/March. The guys at Oxygene were great for ski hire. La Corniche was the best restaurant and worth seeking out. Free buses around the resort run frequently. Plenty of nice wide runs and not too crowded. The best thing about an early trip is you can come back later in the season…
