What Skiers Say About Tignes

Tignes attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting the vast ski area, high altitude ensuring reliable snow coverage, and strong connections to Val d'Isère. The après-ski scene, particularly venues like Cocorico's and Folie Douce, receives frequent praise. Multiple users mention well-groomed pistes, efficient lift systems, and minimal queuing outside peak periods. Common criticisms include high prices for food, drink, and lift passes, limited terrain for complete beginners (many greens require blues to access), and a lack of tree-lined runs due to the high altitude. Several reviewers describe the resort architecture as functional rather than picturesque, and conditions can become icy or mogul-heavy by late afternoon.

Best skiing in Europe I’ve had. Easily accessible from accommodation, plenty of options and variety in ski slopes.

No snow for the 3 weeks before made this an icy week. Lots of runs to choose but not for beginners in these conditions. Very cold (-21) but dry with lots of access and refueling options so survived. Sweet helpful people and good food, small village centres but free shuttle bus to Val D’isere and back

Just visited Tignes last week, with pass including Val d'sere. Haven't been to this resort before so it was all new. Pistes were fairly quiet and lift queues were brilliant. Town seemed quiet (we were in le lac) and a fair few shops/hotels closed. Visited Val claret one night and had a lovely meal in a very nicely presented restaurant called Piñata. Had a blast at La Bollins apres and was far better to Folie (in my opinion). My only one grumble was the cost of the lift pass, I dont think the area was as diverse as say portes de Soleil or Mont Blanc where the lift price was the same. It was 450euros and I think 375-400 would have been much fairer.

For some reason I have skied all over Europe and Canada but had never been to Tignes. Huge mistake Tignes / Val-d’Isère is a great ski area. Great lifts great runs and 2 fantastic glaciers. On piste catering is good if expensive and Tignes where we stayed has good pubs and restaurants.
I’ll be back

Great resort with lots of runs and lively apres ski. Only let down is that the Town is a bit of a concrete jungle in areas and the food and drink is expensive.

Amazing resort with loads of brilliantly groomed pistes. Literally something for everyone and easily accessible with the vast network of lifts. The three separate parts of Tignes offer something for all, including non skiers. Loads of stuff for kids to do with Tignespace and the leisure centre. Really friendly, well run resort with more or less guaranteed snow.

Was a great time! Massive mountain with easy access to Val’desere. Incredible restaurants & Apres was really fun.

No tree skiing through as it’s too high up.

Huge resort with so many different places to go with many places for all levels of skiers. Can have a good mix of skiing and apres. Can be very expensive for food and drinks but many cheap accommodations are available. Conditions in April and best first thing in the morning, becomes very slushy and mougles and the end of the day so can be a bit more difficult for beginners to get down especially on busy slopes

Attended Tignes resort through a university trip, accommodation was significantly better than I was expecting with modern comfy rooms and delicious fresh French breakfast and evening meals. As a beginner, lessons were informative but fast paced and I was comfortably able to handle green and blues on my own within a week. The options for apres ski were brilliant with lots of bars providing both indoor and outdoor entertainment. The location is also great surrounded by miles and miles of runs so everyday we could try something different. It’s also quite easy to navigate over to nearby Val Disere

Pros;
* Good runs with green & blues and also good runs for experts. Made the trip good for our group of 6 girls
* Food was amazing and good options. Especially in Le Lac. The Pan Asian there was lovely,
* Lifts were easy and not too fast to get on. The lift directors were lovely & helped when needed, especially with the kids.
* People in Tignes have no ego and are down to earth. It feels non judgemental.
* Cocos night life is amazing. Songs are singalong & people crowd surf. Very fun.
Rangas live music was also good and a good after coco’s place.

Cons:
* No negatives.

We Usually ski over New Year. This was our first visit to Tignes le Lac in 20 years. We were there for New Year. The outdoor free New Year’s Eve concert and Fireworks were great. The lift queues were ok and slopes not as busy as I was expecting for New Year. Will definitely return.

Tignes is expensive but a resort that had it all. Combined with Val D’Isere this has everything you need. Definitely more on the pricey side however
