What Skiers Say About Tignes

Tignes attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting the vast ski area, high altitude ensuring reliable snow coverage, and strong connections to Val d'Isère. The après-ski scene, particularly venues like Cocorico's and Folie Douce, receives frequent praise. Multiple users mention well-groomed pistes, efficient lift systems, and minimal queuing outside peak periods. Common criticisms include high prices for food, drink, and lift passes, limited terrain for complete beginners (many greens require blues to access), and a lack of tree-lined runs due to the high altitude. Several reviewers describe the resort architecture as functional rather than picturesque, and conditions can become icy or mogul-heavy by late afternoon.

Huge fan of Tignes as the OG all-rounder - massive area to explore when you connect with Val D'Isere, great options for both spring and winter skiing & of course incredible apres at Kokorico.

Top tier.

We loved our ski-in ski-out apartment in Val Claret, which was newly renovated and opposite to CocoRico.
Transfer was a nightmare as there was a landslide and took almost 10 hours to get there. And then on our way back, almost missed our flight due to an accident.
The ski school instructor was very professional and friendly. I progressed a lot in one week.
Some slopes can get very busy, especially if you go to apre and try to catch the lift before it closes.
Overall, we really enjoyed our time at Tignes, and we’ll definitely go back.

Had a blast, great place to ski, especially the glacier and the olympic runs. Blagged my way onstage to play guitar at Cocorico, had a fantastic time. The beer is a little pricey, but generally a brilliant resort. Plenty of runs, fun terrain, good off-piste (even some tree runs at lower altitude). 10/10 would ski again.

Good resort to visit in December as there is usually good snow and before Christmas it is quiet. Reasonably large ski area including Val d'Isere. Good selection of red and black runs. We only ski on-piste but snow was well prepared. It needs more picnic areas as there are only 4 in the whole area and one was closed all week for use by racers. We ski lots and carry our own packed lunches so don't use the mountain restaurants - its too expensive when you ski 4 or 5 weeks each winter. Good range of self-catering accomodation. We particularly liked that we got free ski passes as we are over 75!

Really enjoyed Tignes - staying in Le Lac. Wide variety of runs either staying close to ‘home base’ as we did some days to collect a member of the group from ski school at lunch, or to venture further and explore the wider area. Not much in the way of trees unless you get over to Val D’isere, but some great runs that side - and the iconic up and over lift.
Obviously good apres at Folie and some good spots in town for sundowner beers (shout out to Marmotts) with live music).

Top place - great for a mixed group.

I went in March 2025 with a group of friends. The resort is big enough that you don’t feel it’s so busy, even though there are a lot of people around. You’re hardly waiting for lifts and the altitude means you’re pretty much guaranteed snow during peak season. Having said that, you don’t really get scenic tree runs like you would in resorts lower down. The trees you do see are a bit lower down where the snow can be hit and miss. The runs aren’t so difficult, with plenty of wide runs to keep you entertained. Apres is great! Lots of options. Folie can be a bit difficult if you are a beginner due to the churned up snow and steepness of the run to get there (especially later in the afternoon).

Previously I have stayed in Val D'isere and Val Claret, this time I stayed in Tignes 1800. It was so much quieter, a lot prettier and got us to my favourite part of the resort super quickly (auguile Percee lift area).

Tignes and Val D'isere is such a complete resort. The on and off piste skiing is extensive. While it is challenging for beginners, it encourages fast improvement and there are lots of blues to develop on.

The lift system is super fast and you can ski 60km+ a day very easily.

It's one of the most snow sure resorts in the world and is therefore my go to. I can't wait to go back!
