What Skiers Say About Tignes
Tignes attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting the vast ski area, high altitude ensuring reliable snow coverage, and strong connections to Val d'Isère. The après-ski scene, particularly venues like Cocorico's and Folie Douce, receives frequent praise. Multiple users mention well-groomed pistes, efficient lift systems, and minimal queuing outside peak periods. Common criticisms include high prices for food, drink, and lift passes, limited terrain for complete beginners (many greens require blues to access), and a lack of tree-lined runs due to the high altitude. Several reviewers describe the resort architecture as functional rather than picturesque, and conditions can become icy or mogul-heavy by late afternoon.

Great for families also as has quiet resorts lower down but well connected with quick lifts with not a lot of queues.
The après ski is highly rated and generally busy season round. With food prices much lower than expected for on slope and off slope meals.
What I love about tignes is the bars down the slope, lots of options - it is a little gritter than other resorts like val disere, so can be more affordable.
Follie is great but compared to some other mountain apres it is quite expensive and pretentious, other resorts have better on mountain options.
A downside is the distance between le lac and val claret. If you don't have a car, busses are a good option throughout the night but check the timings.
We stayed at Tignes 1800 in a self catered apartment. The only supermarket available was a spar which was at least 2x the cost of a regular spar. You expect a slight cost increase but not that. We decided to eat out a few times and splash out so the rest of the week we were doing ski school style and making sandwiches to eat on benches. But they seem to have taken all benches or picnic areas away. The restaurant scene in Tignes is 5* but not something you could eat every day on a activity holiday.
My partner and friends were in oxygen ski school and they had an awesome instructor, they were super helpful.
We had the perfect conditions, snow at night sun in the day. Incredible!
We will go back but will be more prepared.
With links to Val dIsere, the ski area is diverse, accommodating a wide range of abilities and interests. Off-piste? Yes! Want to hit the park? Hell yes! Feel like racing? Absolutely.
I personally didnt have any lessons in Tignes, but ESF are a renowned school that will get you on the slopes in no time.
The variety of restaurants and shops is a bit limited compared to other resorts, but you could certainly do a bit of souvenir shopping. There is an activities centre with free access to the pool (with slides!) if you present your ski pass. The resort overall can also be quite budget-friendly if you plan it all out.
Overall I had an amazing and unforgettable time in Tignes and would definitely recommend.
