What Skiers Say About Tignes

Tignes attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting the vast ski area, high altitude ensuring reliable snow coverage, and strong connections to Val d'Isère. The après-ski scene, particularly venues like Cocorico's and Folie Douce, receives frequent praise. Multiple users mention well-groomed pistes, efficient lift systems, and minimal queuing outside peak periods. Common criticisms include high prices for food, drink, and lift passes, limited terrain for complete beginners (many greens require blues to access), and a lack of tree-lined runs due to the high altitude. Several reviewers describe the resort architecture as functional rather than picturesque, and conditions can become icy or mogul-heavy by late afternoon.

Colocorico is the one for aprés, get there between 2-4 for happy hour! There are endless places to get food, and its such a reliable resort for any type of piste, and I rarely have to queue for any time at all really at the lifts

Early season visit to Tignes 1st week of December great conditions considering lack of snow but made up for by resort management of slopes. A few bits of Off piste particularly worth a mention underneath Tommeuz to La Dai. Spent a week in La Taos with a couple of good nights in the Loop Bar well worth a visit.

Visited Tignes in early December and the resort absolutely delivered AGAIN! Such a great time of year to visit. The pistes were in great condition and new snow fell so we were skiing boot deep powder on piste!! The off piste was just as good with powder fields everywhere we looked. More skiing than the legs could cope with.

Went as a beginner for a uni trip. Very good aprés-ski. Good level of different difficulty runs. Accommodation options were convenient and nice rooms. Only issue was food and drink and groceries was very expensive.

Good for early and late season trips as high and has a glacier. Pretty cold and bleak in bad weather as chairlifts are not covered or heated and few trees.

Tignes coupled with Val dIsere makes a unique skiing experience. With access to two of the best resorts in the world you can experience the high altitude skiing, world class après (folie douce and coco ricos), and luxury of val disere without the price tag. I would recommend staying in le lac or higher as the lower villages arent as well connected but can offer a budget friendly option. A trip up to the grande motte glacier is a must for any intermediate or advanced skier whilst beginners have a range of greens (more like blues) lower down the mountain. The unique presence of coco ricos bar means you can indulge in all the après you like without missing any skiing (4pm-8pm). Tignes is a great resort if youre looking for the perfect ski/party balance.

I travelled to tignes for my first snowboarding holiday after only having a couple of lessons on a dry slope back home. I would say tignes is not the most beginner friendly resort due to even the long green runs having some steep parts. If you arent confident / arent willing to fall over a bunch I would recommend going to a more beginner friendly resort with some more mellow runs.

Excellent pistes and you can end your day supping a few beers in the Jam Bar. Good variety of accommodation, my preference is a catered chalet.

Tignes, is great for a powder day you can go cut lines from any lift pretty much, its a playground. Suits beginners, those sticking the piste, learning to off piste and free riding.

Favourite lines are from the top of Tommeuses / Toviere you can push north along col de la Toviere and drop in or simply go left off Creux run. And go for the hidden valley to la daille.

Aprés is perfect because the small town size means everyone migrates to the same bar.

You can find pizza for 12 at the bottom of grand pre lift

Great resort, ventured back to the area after a 15 year absence .
The big pull is its snow holding and access to glaciers, guaranteeing skiing.
Used to go to Val dIsere a lot, but its overdeveloped , while Tignes feels like a skiers resort still.
The skiing offers everything from steep off piste, great accessible powder, when conditions are right, to a wide variety of pistes for all abilities.
Long descents possible including the Sache, one of Europes longest runs.
Great lift infrastructure, which only jams in a couple of spots, when the resort is very busy.
The apres tends not to be high end, but plenty of decent pubs and lively apres bars.

A lovely resort with a vast array of runs for all levels of skiers and plenty of off piste between runs. The link to Val Disere gives the option for a large number of runs, and multiple apres spots which are all great fun. A little bit expensive but the quality of skiing is great!

Tignes is a good all round resort which caters for both beginners and experts. It is connected with Val DIsere and has 300 kilometres of runs. It is also 3656m at its highest point (Grand Motte) so is snow sure during the winter months. There s also a variety of off piste for both beginners and experts. You will never get bored with the skiing in Tignes.

Snow sure and offers a wide choice of skiing and accommodation. With the link to Val the ski area is vast, excellent off piste skiing. The only down side is lack of tree skiing in bad weather, but Valdisere does have some down to La Daille.
