What Skiers Say About Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many reviewers noting the extensive 250km ski area spread across four villages. Intermediate and advanced riders consistently praise the varied terrain, tree-lined runs, and accessible off-piste options. The resort is described as quiet, particularly outside French school holidays, with minimal lift queues and a relaxed, authentic French atmosphere. Common criticisms include outdated lift infrastructure, limited après-ski options, and lower altitude base areas that can suffer from poor snow conditions or become slushy in warmer weather. Reviews frequently highlight good value for money and praise the authenticity of the villages, though some note that prices are still typical for France.

A great resort for intermediates and up with some fantastic groomers but relatively little for beginners. The tree line is high for the Alps which gives fantastic opportunities for tree skiing. The lift system is a bit old with some slow lifts and real choke points when trying to access the whole of the resort.

Overall highly recommended for anyone of a good level interested in at least poking around off piste and into the trees

Serre Chevalier is not a ski resort par excellence but a valley with several villages that overlap within the same ski area. In terms of skiing, it's interesting; the area is large, but this means a lot of connections are needed to go from one end of the area to the other. However, it remains much better than Sella Ronda in my opinion.

As for other activities, since there isn't really a resort offering the comfort and après-ski one expects from a major ski resort. The restaurants are average on the slopes and in the villages, and accommodation is mostly in apartments, with the hotel offer only starting to evolve.

The proximity to the city of Briançon is an advantage for amenities that are not necessarily found in the larger resorts. Also very close to the Lautaret pass and La Mège, one can find international level ski touring and off-piste.

In terms of price, it is still very expensive for this type of resort, both for the ski pass and for extras. I recommend it for good to very good skiers who come mainly for skiing. For others, I am not sure that the offer meets the expectations of holidaymakers.

Serre Chevalier is such a wonderful resort. Staying in the smaller villages but being able to ski across 4 different ski areas (with no worry about getting back as there is a bus) was so lovely!! Very very snow sure in January lots of powder and great area for free riding/ off piste. Will be returning next year !

I've just spent the last 10 days of my season at Serre Chevalier for ski racing and its a great resort. I'd say it's less touristy than other resorts I've visited in the past, but that makes for a quieter and calmer holiday experience. The slopes are always well groomed every morning with plenty of routes to take. There are several lifts to various areas and a good variety of slopes for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. There is also plenty of tree runs and off pieste areas to explore and a snow park for those who wish to test their skills!

For off the slope there is a selection of restaurants with great food and a couple of good bars for those who want to party. Hotel/chalet options are available with self catering and full board options also. For those who want to self cater there is a large supermarket nearby with everything someone will need.

Overall a great place to visit, very picturesque and fun!

I went to Serre Chevalier on a school trip, the ski school we used was very good, friendly and informative instructors who took us around the resort from the black runs to the moguls and jump park. The lifts queues moved pretty fast so we were able to do quite a lot of runs. The nearby towns have nice shops and places to eat at aswell.
